Hacks have their fun in no free aim lobbies for sure but the true targets are all in the controller ones. All the gullible newb players on pc get defaulted straight there and many don't read boards at all to know what the settings hidden in the controller tab do.
Maybe R* should do something about the hackers.
Oh wait. Its R* and after 5 years GTA online is still riddled with hackers as always.
Usually R* does not ban players who are forced Gold/Money drops. Worse I have seen they remove it. But if ran around gathering it. That is different. Usually when I see the actions of a script kiddy I usually the leave session right away.
Sometime not all bans are final. R* will review and if found that you did nothing. The ban is lifted/removed within 7 business days.
When the get caught. They just buy another copy, get a new steam account and continue on with their ways. If caught again they just rinse and repeat.
What R* needs to do. It may seem harsh. But a hardware block. Then they only way they can continue is to buy a new motherboard. I think we would see a slow down of script kiddies.
Last time they tried an anti-cheat (March 2017 if memory serves me right) was for GTA 5. There was so many non-cheating players temp banned (it was in the thousands) they removed the program. All the players got their stuff back.
Being P2P and not an actual server it is really hard for R* to detect the cheating. (That is why it is important if you see a cheater, just report them and leave the session.) Plus most script kiddies now that the only time R* really looks is during a release of a new DLC, or a money give away they do quite often in GTA 5. So they will clean up their PC.
When players realize that R* does not monitor the lobbies and start reporting cheaters through the menu, or web site if you have video. Then it will just continue. Until we as a players do something about it.
The problem is Rockstar's lack of caring, not just a lack of reporting. They tried to use a broken anti-cheat system years ago... and what else? They ban a few people, more than sometimes someone who isn't actually cheating, and that's it. There's not much us players can do to fix this issue, there's a plethora of things Rockstar could do. They're just not going to do any of it because they don't care, they're still making money from gold bars either way.

GTA Online. The update attracted record users and sparked recurrent consumer spending in new and existing gamers.
"Recurrent consumer spending on GTA Online grew 23% YoY to a new record, driven by the July release of the Diamond Casino Resort update. This update was GTA Online's biggest content launch ever, delivering record daily, weekly, and monthly active users in July and again in August," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a Q2'20 earnings call.
GTA V and GTA Online show no signs of slowing down. Rockstar says it won't stop releasing new content for GTA Online any time soon, and the game's strong earnings have caused Take-Two to raise its financial outlook for the fiscal year.

back in the days when hack tool users could spawn money bags above a player! some kid spawned moneybags above evey person in the lobby, at that time i was afk for like 5mins give or take, when i came back i had MILLIONS! and the baggs still came from the sky, i ran inside, logged off and contacted R* support (more or less out of fear) to remove all that cash i did not earn. now here's the kicker... after a few days i get the message, your account has bin reset!
the ♥♥♥♥ tards resetted my entire account, labeled me as the purp ! seriously still till this day i can't earn money, it instantly gets removed from my account, because i had loads of stuff before the money drop and they took that as "cheated in" too i guess so i need to pay that off twice! F U rock star.
then again here i em, playing RDO a rock star game... i'll never learn.
As for the story of being afk in gta online and earning millions then getting banned when you reported it. I saw pretty much the same story from another person and several people actually proved that the player was actively making youtube videos of how they got free money from modders.
People that did not realize the money was not real did get banned for it in gta. But every player that did realize there was an issue and they reported it or at least avoided it kept their accounts.
As this thread title states, if a chest is spawned near you, you should probably just avoid it unless you were doing something to find the chest. If it is for a treasure map that you were using then it is probably okay. If it is in the back of a wagon in a camp that you just shot up, then it is probably okay. If it is in a hideout you cleared then it is probably okay. If you were fishing and teleport to the middle of Lakay (the swamps) and see a chest just sitting there, you need to walk away.
