My Steam wallet is ready to buy, but these horrific reviews tell me this isn't a good idea.

So what is the current state of Red Dead 2? I know online is a s**tshow, and I have no plans on playing that anyway.

And no, I don't have a potato PC.

- GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Hybrid
- Intel Core i7-7700K (4.8 GHz but could go higher)
- DDR4 32GB Corsair Vengance
- SSD Samsung 850 EVO 1TB (main storage for games)
- Drivers updated (bios, cpu, gpu)

Played day one of PS4 launch and them came here for PC launch and Playing story again is like a new experience all over again. Use Geforce to Optimize it and it nailed it spot for me.
This game is the best looking thing you probably will play to date. Beats RL scenery. I only have a 3mb connection and Up untill yesterdays Patch I never got booted but, once in a blue moon. I've been lucky. The P2P is what sucks. IF your on with someone with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ connection I mean worse than mine It drags everyone else down. Good Luck bud. I vote Buy IT and I promise you won't regret it. From a 45 year old gamer...

You will 100% be fine. Those bad reviews are people with potatoes. Even Online is fine with the exception of an infinite loading screen bug they are currently working on a fix for. There are mod menu users, but infinitely less than GTAO. Also being in Defensive mode will prevent a number of things the mod menu can do to you. If you do die, you can just Parley with who killed you - it makes you immune to anything caused by that character. A recently patched menu could glue you to the ground even in Parley, but I haven't seen that in weeks. I actually haven't even seen a hacker in weeks period. People literally just either have a trash PC or a trash ISP (or both) and try to blame the game for their crashes/disconnects.

I have a nearly identical rig except I have the 8700k, and I run everything at Ultra, except for Reflections on High.. then Particles, Particle Lighting, Volumetric Lighting, and TAA on medium. TAA sharpness slider all the way off (to the left) and then I use the built in reshade filters (Alt+F3) to clear up and sharpen the image manually. I get 30-45 fps @ 4k with occasional dips to 25-27 in rare scenarios where its night, foggy and there are a lot of lanterns/camp fires on screen. This is pretty much on par with the consoles except for MUCH better looking graphics. Play on 1440p if these framerates are too low for you. Don't use the resolution scale, its pretty bad. Unless you just want to drop it down to around 90% to prevent dips below 30 fps.
