Fox trotter is the best of both worlds, fast and doesn't run off when it hears a gunfire. But it's a late-game horse

Unfortunately, to a great extent, it's the luck of the draw. You could have two horses with the exact same breed and gender with drastically different levels of courage. It does seem like some breeds of horses are more likely to end up being brave, but it's still far too luck based to really know what you're going to get. In general, the Missouri Fox Trotter and the Turkoman are considered to be the best horses, since they have some of the better stats and are usually some of the braver breeds. IIRC, they're both considered "multi" horses though, and if you want a horse that's considered a war horse, you're definitely going to end up with worse stats overall, though you might have a better chance of getting a brave horse. The horse with the best stats overall (though not the best in every category) is the Black Arabian, but it's frequently skittish. Even then though, it's luck of the draw. Some, people have had really good luck with them, whereas other folks have had terrible luck (and at 42 gold bars, going through multiple of them until you find a good one could be very expensive). Regardless, the only sure way to get a brave horse is to keep buying horses over and over again until you get lucky. At best, certain breeds are just more likely to be brave.

Andulusian (sp?) hands down for me

Go pure war horse not those half breed multi war horses

On a side note the Trader profession Kladruber is surprisingly extremely brave vs animal threats

yee i nabbed perlino andalusian and prolly gonna use it exclusively, seems to be best war horse, highest stats of any war horse so bravery must be good to, 10 hp and 8 stamina i think at bonding 4, and decent speed and aceleration with best saddle and stirrups combo, looks pretty too

I got a Breton, it is fearless. Has never thrown me since it went level 4

I usually use the black arabian . After level 4 I couldn't tell much difference . I own all top tier role horses.

Pure War Horse all the way

Ride one and you can't help but tell the difference in bravery between a pure war horse and a lv 4 bonded arabian its like night and day

When wolves attack, I don't even bother shooing them, I just turn towards them and trample them all to death and take the meat for my stew
