How do you get into the doctors locked back room?
Hey guy, how's it going? In single-player story mode so far in 2 play-throughs I have found two doctor's office with a locked back room that supposedly I can rob, and one gunsmith who is a pederast with his victim locked in the basement. Have yet to figure out how to get through these locked doors. Help, please. I confess this one has stumped me.

I think you need to threaten the doctor through interaction. There should be an option to force him to open that door (once you've discovered the door).
So...enter the "store", interact with the locked door, go back to the main room, cover your face and interact with the doctor.

Definitely interacted with the guy, but not with a mask on. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Did you check the back door or check the back window first?

If I remember rightly you have to point your gun at the store keeper. This will give you the option to rob the register or the back room.
You don't need a mask. Just pull a gun on the owner and it will have an option to rob him or make him open the back room.

Once you have been tipped about an illegal business in a store, go to the store and get close to the shopkeeper. In the interact menu, you'll get a prompt to question him about it. Aiming the gun without questioning will make him pullout a gun.

I don't understand how the internet can be so unhelpful for some things? This one had me stumped for a while.

Yes, it's totally a thing...robbing a side business on PC can be very frustrating because your weapons are disabled upon entering, and the "rob" options, etc. do not appear.

I've come close with some workarounds, like using "Draw", but that usually results in the weapon firing automatically and killing the merchant. So I stand with the cash register between me and the doctor (in this case), so the bullet doesn't hit the guy. At that point, he runs off to get the cops.

With the gunsmith in Rhodes, I had the same problems but it did eventually work out.

The General Store in Strawberry worked just fine.

The bandana has nothing to do with it, from what I can tell. Mask-up before you enter/ mask-up after you enter...no effect.

The one thing that I'm left wondering about is the timing. I suspect the doctor's office might not work for me because I waited much too long between peeking through the window and staging the robbery? That...or it's just buggy?

In all fairness to those who say things like "Just point your weapon at the guy", Rockstar has made things confusing for a conversation like this by having the PC, the consoles, and online...all of which seem to have slight differences.

I play SP on PC and this is a very frustrating problem.

So far I have managed to get the kid out of the pederast's basement in Rhodes by tossing a lasso at him. Tried all these and still haven't managed any of the others. Pray continue with your reports.

If you find out about the side business, you get the option to either rob the register, or rob the backroom.

For the gunsmith in Rhodes you just need to find and talk to the guy in the basement (window on the side of the house).

For the general store in Strawberry you need to peek into the window that's under the boardwalk thing that leads to the store, there is a moonshine still in the basement.

The doctor in Valentine has some side business going on in the back, you need to look into the window at the back of the house for that.

The Chinese gunstore owner in St. Denis has some illegal poker match upstairs, but I'm not sure how you learn about that. It's definitely on youtube.

Also, the fence in St. Denis has some illegal immigrants kept prisoner in secret room behind a bookshelf. You learn about that from the monk standing in front of that trapper/fence area, but only in chapter 4 or 5, a bit late in the game.

And they all work the same, you go into the store, preferably masked, point your gun at the owner with the "aim weapon" option, and then you get either just "rob register", and if you know about the side business "rob back room", or "rob basement".

No, some people do not "get the option" at all...thus the point of this thread.

Your video shows a guy walking into the doctor's office and pulling out a sidearm...when players cannot do this simple thing, they come here to find answers.

I've already explained all of this...no doubt it was tldr?

When players can not do this simple thing, they might be doing something wrong, because the aim weapon option is pretty much always there, as soon as you focus on an NPC, and robbing a store is one of the most basic things you can do in Story mode.

Well, that is entirely and completely unhelpful. Thanks for coming out.

As I've already explained, I play single-player on PC, and as many others have pointed out, my weapons are automatically disabled upon entering a business. There is no weapon wheel to access, TAB does not cause me to draw my weapons, etc.

...except when it isn't. Then you get this thread.

Have you tried focusing on the shopkeeper?
It doesn't matter if your weapon wheel is disabled, there still should be an "aim weapon" option if you focus on an NPC.

After 635 hrs...what do you think?

You obviously have nothing worthwhile to contribute to a conversation where you need to be convinced it's even happening.

I was hoping someone might come along with something helpful, like maybe pointing out that there are specific settings in the options menu where critical aspects of gameplay might have been disabled or something? Of course, as I've pointed out, it seems to be hit-and-miss, from one playthrough to the next - it's not my system, it's not my settings, and it most certainly isn't because I cannot comprehend basic game instructions.

This is just tedious at this point.

Then stop going on about it and insulting people who are trying to help. What answer are you looking for exactly?
