Id like to know this too. In some wikis I see things about using a "long-scoped rifle" for optimal pelt quality, etc. What if it's the same rifle with a short scope or no scope at all?

I've got the first sniper rifle and maxed it out, longer scope, better grip, rifling and there is no zoom whatsoever. All you get out of it is the ability to kill at longer range. Period.

Yes you can zoom in and out wit the [ and ] keys, if using the keyboad. Smaller one means, 'lesser' range in zoom.

short scope has least zom, medium scope has medium zoon and long scope has most zoom but id suggest medium scope cuz you can hit long range stuff just fine with it except maybe headshot at rly long rages and it's more managble to pull of if u get cornered in close quaters and mos timportantly it has least distortion at edges compared to short and long scope. short scope is noly rly useful if u wonna ht headshots more easily close to medium range and long scope if u truely wonna be long range hunter sniper kind of guy who snipes from as far as possible but besides that medium is the way to go imo, altoh i prefer bolt action, springfield and repeaters without scopes and only sniper rifle rifles which have scope u can deatch but only replace with shorter/longer ones

If you are using a gun with a scope that is _not_ a sniper rifle (e.g. a repeater or the bolt action rifle), then you can choose to look through the scope or not. So, you zoom in by using the scope and zoom out by not using the scope. So, there's only one one level of zoom, but you can choose whether you're zoomed in or not. How zoomed in you are when looking through the scope depends on the type of scope.

On the other hand, if you're using a gun which _is_ a sniper rifle (namely the rolling block rifle and the carcano rifle), then you always have to use the scope with it and thus are always zoomed in.

No, you are able to zoom in and out with the zoom in [ and zoom out ] but you need to middle mouse button for to enter the scope if you have it. It is however a 1 1/2 zoom only.

Are you sure you are not talking just about the binoculars?

Because right now I am ingame and I have a long range scope on both my Carcano and Rolling block - neither of them are able to zoom in or out more while scoped.

Those buttons ([ and ]) don't do anything either.

Yeah. I just tried it to see if what he was claiming was true, and as far as I can tell, he's just plain wrong. I tried with both the bolt action rifle and the carcano rifle, and neither of them will change their zoom level with [ or ]. The keys aren't shown in the bottom right, and they do nothing. On the other hand, if I use the binoculars, [ and ] _are_ shown in the bottom right, and they do change the zoom level.
Yes I was confused a little, it is kinda late here lol. Just explained it with

Yes I am so sorry it was the binoculus! I was confused a little about it, to zoom use the mouse wheel to the front.
Again sorry brother!
