arterial shots?

so ive seen alot of arterial shots being pulled off on youtube where the guy gets hit, walks off while spraying blood everywhere before dying.
Never managed to pull it off myself and after trying for some time, im starting to think maybe theres something wrong with my version of the game or im doing something wrong maybe? (all the other gore like dismemberment is there just fine).

Can anyone help me figure this out?

shot a dude in the neck and had him stagger for a few moments before dying, also if you shoot someones leg off with a shootgun they might scream and clutch their mortal wound for a second before dying

Tried it, and went aiming for the right zones too. Not a single hit in hours.
At this point im convinced im doing something fundamentally wrong or my version of the game somehow doesnt have it (or its turned off somewhere).

yep, confirmed for sure artery shots just dont work on my game. Tried typing up people and carefully aiming at the right place a dozen times, nothing.

Anyone else experience this? Is there something I can do to enable them?

I think its just chance and i doubt you can force it like that. I have had that happen sometimes even with animals they run away while bleeding. The cross should turn a dark red when that happens it means its not dead but critical hit.

I understand but in my entire playthrough (50% ish now) not a single hitmarker was dark red and I never got a single artery shot ever. Is it just that rare? Even when you go for the right areas you just never land a hit? Or is it some other requirement before it starts happening?

I think npcs need to be close to dying i dont think i ever had that happen with 1 shot like atleast i hit it somewhere else before. Then when i try for a headshot but miss abit to the neck then sometimes i get it. Its not that rare like you but its still rather rare i would say maybe in 2 big shootouts with like 20-30npcs i would get 1critical hit like that. Like i said at the end its just pure chance its just happen sometimes. Its funny tho they run away while holding it and they lose quite alot unrealisticly blood lol.

Shoot them in their heart. Usually aiming at the upper torso will get you the dark red hit markers, which in that case, you've caused them to start bleeding out. They don't need to be close to dying and you can use regular bullets to bleed them out.
