so i changed it to 12288 mb. and so far zero crushes in two hours (maybe i should make it 16384 mb, dunno, im not good at those things).
my rig.
r5 3600
gtx 1060 6 gb
16 gb ram.
system on 1st ssd, game on 2nd ssd.
there's no reason to set page file manually. Leave it on automatic.
cause you set the page file large enough to have enough free space to swap as needed. You had it set too small before and got out of memory error.
there is zero reason to set it manually.
ok i think i know what you're referring to. On slow disk systems, you can get an error like that if the page file is too slow to expand, due to a slow disk system.
This is actually a known issue.
You can read here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4055223/memory-allocation-errors-can-be-caused-by-slow-page-file-growth.
Microsoft still recommends if you're going to set it manually, set it to 1.5x your RAM. If you have 16GB, set it to 24GB.
actually page fule was set to auto for a 4 years or something, but rdr is magical game - it forces us to change! so now im using 4 gb as page file just to play it.
BUT. i think it's actual for HDD only.
Im using 128 gb ssd as my system disk. And i always used it on auto mode with like 2.3 gbs. Even when i had 8 gb ram or 16 gb ram now.
So far nothing caused any problems. Actually i didn't have problems with RDR either on the launch.
But i returned to the game yesterday and crushes started.
and manual page file is what helped me.
All and all i've set it to 4096mb (16 gb ram, right), and so far zero crashes. played whole night yesterday.
although i had my game launching, it just crashed after 1 or 2 minuts of playing.
I had crashes on the launch, couldn't even get to main menu. I tried everything. EVERYTHING.
and what helped me - i updated bios on my motherboard (using ryzen 3600).
hope anything of this will help you.
------
and about where did i get 12288mb from.
1 gb is 1024 mb. so i didnt want to set my whole ram size, so i used 8192 (8 gb) + 4096 (4 gb) = 12288 (12 gb) page file.
in the end 4096 was enough.
game crashes run the benchmark.
even if you got the thing disabled if the game requires a shader you not downloaded that game will crash. disabling only prevents it corrupting once you have a working stable shader cache file.
The Benchmark generates the shader cache files, which are indeed related to the issues Rockstar is having to with this game. However as you run the game those cache files get updated and the problem is recreated over time.
So that workaround buys you some playability, but the problem ultimately comes back...
They need to fix it, not ask people to work around their problem.
didn't help tho'
