RDR2 is currently in a pretty disappointing state, all things considered, and Rockstar support leaves much to be desired.
Ive tried both APIs, each resulting in random crashing. Get it mainly when going through menus like the shop books and here and there with active quests. Games been out for 2 months on PC and no patch, that's pretty laughable.
Also, any kind of overlay also seems to cause that message to eventually pop up.
16GB Ram, i7 6700 and an RTX 2070 Super. I'm positive it isn't my PC lol. Just R* not optimizing various hardware by the looks of it.
I'd place my bets its cloud saving, that sounds very probable.
Let us know if this also works for you.. A lot of players are having this issue, so it might be nice to confirm that we've finally found a real fix.
I've tried every possible solution on these forums for at least the past two weeks, but my game just kept on crashing within the first half hour.
Now I can finally enjoy progressing through the story without fear of an impending crash..
If you're also getting the 'ERR_GFX_STATE' message, it seems that this kind of error could have multiple causes.
My suggestion mostly applies to players who are randomly getting this type of crash within the first hour of play, like I was.
I probably can't really help you with your problem, because I haven't actually come across it myself.
But on the other hand, only having it crash after a few hours is still more reasonable than having the game consistenly crash within the first 20 or 30 minutes of play..
That is only when I do play that long, so most of the time it's crash free
(The game would freeze and stop responding.)
The only fix I could find that worked for me, was turning DEP off.
I'm NOT sure if it is SAFE or what it is, but it worked for me.
Im using Vulcan API
- How to turn off DEP.
- Go to Windows Start
- Search for "cmd"
- Open "Command Prompt"
- Then write this command "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff"
Now it should say "The operation completed succesfully."
- How to turn on DEP again.
Use this command "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn"
Does turning off DEP actually help fix the annoying freeze-crashes?
Well I crashed yesterday, but for the first time in 2 days. And I used to crash every hour or so.
So its not a fix, but it is so much better, so much better that i thought it was fixed.
I also read on reddit that if your using the Vulcan API, you should make sure to keep deleting the Vulcan settings files, since the file will build up in size and eventually crash the game.
The files at located in
\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings
I'm not sure if it has any effect, I'm still testing this.
But if your using Vulcan API, maybe its worth a try?
