Collector Role and the Shovel??
I am looking for an arrowhead that is supposed to be south of Cumberland Falls. I am now a Collector Level 8 (this level supposedly unlocks the ability to see the dirt mounds where you are supposed to dig). I have walked this area for about 30 mins today and about an hour yesterday. I cannot seem to find it. I have been using dead eye and everything. Is there some way to activate the shovel other than just having it in my possession that I am missing? Please advise. Thanks. PC user, by the way.

The metal detector is indeed required for most arrowheads, coins and heirlooms.

Check this map to see for yourself:
https://jeanropke.github.io/RDR2CollectorsMap/
(It correctly displays the current cylce of the locations and Madam Nazar's current location.)

Magnet symbol means metal detector required.
Shovel symbol means you can spot the dirt mount.
No symbol means above ground.

Thank you! That is the info I needed.

Why do people think they don't need metal detector for an ivory hairpin, tortioseshell brush, flint and obsidian arrowheads? It's a fairy tale game with instant respawn and health regeneration after all.

Why do you think we should need it? RDR 2 is not even close to a fairy tale, it's actually quite realistic compared to other games. Many games apply real life logic to feel more intuitive and real. And even if they don't why would they put such ass backwards logic in a game? Unless they intentionally want to confuse the player (which is not the case here), it's just stupid.

Couldn't let it die with dignity?

Click on a collectible icon.
A shovel or metal detector symbol is on the left side of the pop-up.
