You can still get ganked, but it makes you take quite a bit less damage when attacked, and players can't lock onto or lasso you (meaning they have to free aim to shoot you, and most players can't free aim for ♥♥♥♥).
If they do try to gank you while you're defensive, it penalizes them more, and you can then kill them with no penalties. But once you damage them it flags you as offensive until you swap back, meaning they can do full damage after you damage them. So shotgun to the face works best.
You probably won't see anyone that aggressive anyway, the map is big enough that you're more likely to run into someone else in defensive, than someone trying to grief. They tend to stick to the towns, and most of the time they'll just try and ram you with their horse in an attempt to flag you, because like I said, they can't function without the auto-aim.
Chased on a rooftop by two higher level players who used the spit emote repeatedly while shoving me repeatedly. I imagine they thought they were being inventive.
Had a lower level player walk up to me while I was finished selling meat and shot me in the face with a rifle point-blank for their own sick amusement.
Tried to sell meat in a town only to discover two players were camped out nearby and opened fire at everything except me - or they were really lousy shots (which is my guess) and in doing so spooked the meat guy and everyone else who blamed ME for the mayhem! I had to ride off and find another place to sell because of these selfish p****s.
Was collecting herbs when another player (in a posse whose reputation was to grief everything in sight for their own sick amusement) rode in, galloped up and shot me in the face with a revolver before riding off. That one got reported as I got their name that time.
Had another posse of two ride in while I was chasing down a coach in a mission and kill me then acted to spawn kill me for another three minutes for their own amusement.
A player stole my horse and rode off with it, leaving me in the middle of nowhere. Repeatedly whistling for the horse was met with the message that the horse could not hear me. I was forced to log out to retrieve it.
I was attacked several times while searching rooms for materials, often the griefers would enter the building come into the room and point-blank blow my face off. This problem has become so bad that now when I see anyone creeping up on me I log out to DENY them the satisfaction of an easy passive kill.
Somehow some a**holes are taking this 'criminal for life' business too far. Especially low level players and new players who seemingly think that being issued with a gun is a ticket to finding the first available player in range and acting to murder them for their own amusement. Why Rockstar allows this to happen is beyond me. Sure the old West was a rough place but unlike the real one, when murder is committed in game the people committing said act cannot expect a lynching - if they did, its a chance they might act with a little more respectability and honor.
But then, honor seems to be an outdated concept. I will however continue to believe in it.
Make the most of these golden times, peeps. Won't be long until we get flying laser unicorns, once they want more money
It's a game, there's good dudes and bad dudes. What do you expect them to do? Ride up and hand you a flower? That's for the good dudes.
Let me tell you about my first experience. I'd been in the game 10 minutes and I was lasso'd, hogtied and thrown on the back of a horse by a posse of 3. They rode to a random place, teabagged me to 'rape' me and then let me go. It was a laugh, unfortunately push to talk was being a ♥♥♥♥♥ so I couldn't roll with it. Part of me thinks my silence was why they let me go.
HOWEVER, I did not melt like an icecube. Why? Because it's a game. Who cares if your stuff gets destroyed? You can make more. Your time got wasted? You're already wasting time playing a game.
There needs to be some kind of mechanic thought up to address spawn camping, because that does get annoying and disrupt the flow of the game world. And yeah, I've been trapped in a shoving situation but everything else you have listed is expected. The beauty of this game is the chaotic nature of it. When I finish with a merchant and some douche has set themselves up perfect to easily take me out, I have to laugh. When I am doing a bounty mission and some player runs up and throws dynamite at me as I am putting the bounty on the back of my horse, I LOL'd.
What was annoying was when I was doing a trader mission with a friend and a posse that was using plugins decided to troll us. That's actually something that disrupts the game. Being shot randomly without expecting it fits the game mechanics and the game world. Its the wild west, be on your toes.
The chaos makes this game great. I play honourably, most the time, but I would never ever expect other players to do so.
if you play with controller its you own fault. just join free aim lobbys and you wont have this problems. btw you can use defensive mode and there is option that wont allow other people to use your horse.
i understand but some of us really just want a pve to play on the side outside of the story. The idea of just some douche following me and killing me isn't fun
They were probably also having a laugh that you hadn't worked out the respawn function yet.
I've been hogtied too, and I have hogtied. Being able to do these things and have them done to you makes this game feel like its alive. Like anything could happen everytime I log in.
Luckily, there is a solo mode for those who need a safe space from the bandits among us.
I haven't set foot in snow for like 40 hours.
The satisfaction is found within the salt ;)
I like your style!
