Also gun technology hasn't advanced that much since Vietnam. Between the older guns in this game and the modern ones they went from using muskets to using what was essentially a sniper rifle as standard issue weapons.

Also the M1911 is crap by modern handgun standards. You can find any gun in service if someone doesn't care enough but that doesn't mean it'll fit the modern standard.
The game also doesn't a lot of stuff at the expense of fun to try and add in more realism, like having to give your character baths, eat, do an animation to craft or pick up an item, skin an animal in real time, force you find your way back to town if your horse dies. Oh yeah and you get infections from animal bites that'll kill you if you don't treat them. So your attempt to derail the discussion doesn't even work.
The guns in this game are pretty accurate for the most part aside from bullets being bullets and one killing as good as any other. They even accounted for single and double action weapons, making you manuall recock the single action revolvers between every shot.
