How come all the cowboy weapons are so old?
A lot of these guns would be museum pieces even in 1899. But the catalog says they're all new. It makes everyone from the mercenaries, US Army and extravagant gang wearing riding on their purebred horses seem like chumps with secondhand gear.

Here's some more modern weapons that would fit the game better.

Have you EVER seen a western movie? A lot of weapons that they use are great and reliable weapons.

Its really not that old look up some modern weapons alot of them are also almost 30years old. And some like the ak-47 is like 50years old or something. Aslong its still reliable you dont need new one.

Yeah no. The reapeaters in the game are all civil war era and were considered less lethal than the muskets standard issue for the era.

The AK-47 isn't used by people who have the option for better guns.

Also gun technology hasn't advanced that much since Vietnam. Between the older guns in this game and the modern ones they went from using muskets to using what was essentially a sniper rifle as standard issue weapons.

Maybe they couldn't get the licensing.

The guns don't use IRL names and a lot of them are from the same manufacturers as ones they used in game for other guns so.

You also gotta consider price and availability. If I remember right a workers daily wage was around .15 cents whereas a Colt SAA (AKA the Cattleman) would cost $15 so most people couldn't afford all of the new shiny stuff. After the company who had a patent on front loading (IE the way cattleman/most weapons are loaded) run out a lot of companies started making those, but again they were very expensive and most people didn't make that kind of money so they'd keep using the guns they have, or convert it to a front loading cartridge and get a bell on an older gun.

That's great except everyone with a gun in this game is a professional gun user who isn't just using their guns for personal defense. Also it literally says you're buying them brand new.

Pretty much everyone has a gun and the vast majority of them aren't high profile thieves and using their weapons for personal defense.Even by the gang they're just thieves, not the military. Also why would they add all the extra stuff? it's a game and one that's trying to be fun/tell a story. Should everyone who gets shot get infected and die? Even if there's a bunch of shiner guns that doesn't make the ones that they have obsolete. look at the m1911 that's still in service today.

The first automatic pistol was created by Joseph Laumann in 1892. But the Borchardt pistol of 1893 was the first automatic with a separate magazine in the grip, and this remains the defining feature of the breed. More automatics came in rapid succession, including Browning, Luger, Mauser, and Colt models. By the turn of the century, just 8 years after Laumann, automatics were firmly established.

It's because Rockstar is more interested in hunting, fishing, horse sh1,t, than making realistic guns.

This is an interesting video.

This video at 9:15 he talks briefly about the "M1899" as it's called in game.

Here is the Volcanic. I had thought for sure this was a made up gun, but it definitely wasn't.

How is it fun to be saddled back with outdated weapons? Also you're claiming it was 15$ for a modern revolver, okay well you go do a heist and get 2,500$ at Valentine. You can also buy modern handguns like C93 and C96 which would be exceedingly rare and expensive by comparison.

Also the M1911 is crap by modern handgun standards. You can find any gun in service if someone doesn't care enough but that doesn't mean it'll fit the modern standard.

The game also doesn't a lot of stuff at the expense of fun to try and add in more realism, like having to give your character baths, eat, do an animation to craft or pick up an item, skin an animal in real time, force you find your way back to town if your horse dies. Oh yeah and you get infections from animal bites that'll kill you if you don't treat them. So your attempt to derail the discussion doesn't even work.

The guns in this game are pretty accurate for the most part aside from bullets being bullets and one killing as good as any other. They even accounted for single and double action weapons, making you manuall recock the single action revolvers between every shot.
