But seriously there has to be no real reason to do long distance deliveries, i guess maybe why they put the daily quest in.
As Level 9 Hamslayer says, a posse is pretty much the way to ensure that you can deliver stuff safely, and the game likes to find ways to encourage people to play in groups instead of solo.
Now, for better or worse, thanks to how Rockstar set up how a trader delivery mission works, if you quit the game during a delivery, you don't actually lose anything, which seems bad from a gameplay perspective (it screws over the players who steal goods like the game wants them to, and it gives you an easy out if your cart is destroyed instead of you only getting some of the money when you deliver what you can by horse), but it _does_ mean that someone can choose to quit any time their long distance deliveries go wrong and give it another try. And as long as they don't keep getting put into sessions with people who choose to steal the goods, they can probably always get a successful long distance delivery within a few attempts.
