Why the incredibly slow download speed for such a huge download???

I turned the download off each day, so I could do some other things for a few hours, but I started it Friday night and it finished late Sunday night. On average it downloaded at the rate of 980 kb/s to 1.4 mb/s throughout that time. This was so ridiculous I called AT&T and asked them to get someone out here to fix this, after they ran through all their silly online and on the phone tests.

But speed tests told us that download speeds available were running at 7.5+ mb/s, so we sent AT&T's guy home for Christmas, and I talked to my two IT guys, one who does my business and the other who tries to beat me at golf (he does about half the time); and they both concurred, ain't you, ain't AT&T, it's the server on the other end of the line.

So what gives, Steam or Rockstar and, of course, the rest of you out there? I am in San Antonio, Texas, until mid-January, and this is nowhere near the end of the world, what are these pathetically slow download speeds all about? I would like some education on this subject. Thank-you in advance.

No idea I live in Oregon and have np here on Comcast game only took about 45 mins for me but for the record I don't use steam less I have to I got it on RockStar

actually i am fairly certain the problem is on your side... you do know there is a difference between MB/s and mb/s right? if you have 7.5+ mb/s its normal to be downloading between 980 KB/s and 1.4 MB/s

Actually, I am trying to figure out who is BS-ing me, and who isn't. Up north where I am about to go my systems there do 50 gig downloads in an hour or so, so from experience I get that this is not right. The computer I am downloading to is one of those that I brought with me. And no, I get paid pretty well for my expertise which inevitably interfaces with computer technology, but I am just a user, and you are the first recently to tell me (or to remind me) there is a difference between MB/s and mb/s. AT&T's speed tests give me a reading around 7.62 m/ps, their nomenclature for their measuring system, so maybe we are talking about 3 different things, and I don't know that yet. This AT&T insists is their standard speed range, but here again am I being BS-ed and not told specifically that there are other levels of service? That has gone through my mind.

That is why I say I need to be educated on this. By virtue of being in two different places, hooked up to 2 different providers, I suddenly have wandered onto ice that is in fact water. My problem may indeed be a matter of nomenclature, for up north my systems are downloading at rates that tend to be in what I have always thought was the 5 to 8 mb/s range, so when I see numbers in that range on AT&T's speed tests (to which they specifically referred me, of course) I naturally assume I am looking at equivalent measurements. But you say no. Please tell me more. I am very curious why it took three days to download this thing.

It's working so far, so that's a good thing.
