Which animal pelt or carcass is better to give to cripps for the trading business? The deer isn't cutting it. The materials thing goes up so little

Each animal has a star rating 1-3 stars.
When you aim at it or look at the tracks in eagle eye it shows the stars in the info.

Shooting it multiple times lowers the quality.
Using the wrong type of weapon can lower the quality. (Large caliber ammo vs small creatures, or shot ftom shotguns)
Trampling it lowers the quality.
If you don't get a clean kill shot and it's bleeding out, hitting it with anything to kill it lowers the quality.

Funnily, if you lasso and drag the corpse of animals that are able to be, it does not lower the quality at this time.
What kind of weapon do I need for Deer? It's the most common animal I see
As said deer need a rifle.
But the bow will work as well.

When aiming at an animal there's a prompt to ahow info.
That description will say what weapon is needed for that animal.

The most valuable carcass is the perfect cougar btw. It's about twice as valuable as a perfect deer.
Not twice.

Iirc a perfect buck is 10, doe is a bit less because of antlers.
The perfect big cat that attacked me this morning was 13.5.

Still better but not double.
Might be closer to double compared to a doe though.

you're right. the male whitetail has a value of up to 12.5* but they are less common compared to the female whitetail which has a value of just 8.75*.
perfect cougars however go all the way up to 17*.

* = with the % bonus you get at a higher trader rank when delivering perfect carcasses.

I do have a question, unrealted to this topic. I saw that Sturgens are $7 a piece when you sell them to a butcher. Where to fish for those and what kind of bait do you need?

You can find them in the flat iron lake right at the coast in Blackwater and near Lagras.
In Lagras is also a shop where you can buy special bait for larger fish. You can buy special river lure, special lake lure and special swamp lure. Which one you should use depends on where you fish. I mean... the clue is in the name.
Ah okay thanks.

To me it seems deers are the most worthy, a 3 stars male carcass give 10 materials. Oddly wolves, wich should be more valuable, gives less. Not sure about alligators or buffalos or bears or wapitys since i didn't manage to get a 3 stars yet. And it's always plenty of deer. You can combo with turkeys, they give 3 or maybe 4 materials and are easy to hunt.
Okay neat. Thanks

Hunting wagon + whole carcass bonus rocks! Just wait until you get there, it's a total game changer.

I spent HOURS on the trader and still do. First step is the rolling block rifle. Then make sure shot placement is good. Either a vital shot or a head shot. It is done well and the kill shots are realistic. Just behind the front shoulder. If you wound them, let them die slowly, or you will ruin the meat. Has to be one shot. Sometimes when you wound them, it loses a star anyway. He really likes 3 star whitetail buck carcasses. Starting off, do pelts and one carcass.Or steal or catch a horse, ride it(runs away otherwise), and put an extra carcass on it.

I always set up in big valley, in the long open valley. There are lots of animals there, the trader missions are easy there as well.

You aren't always going to find 3 stars. So there you can just take him everything. It's mostly elk and two kinds of deer, and also 3 star moose spawn there. I have a hunting wagon and barely ever use it because its so full of animals in big valley and a short ride to camp.

Using this method you max out on meat as well, which i sell at the butcher. Trader is the most profitable role. Bounty hunter is the least.

I bought the game when it came out and haven't linked it to steam because it's pointless. But I'm level 103, and all roles are level 20, and have about 10 days of play time already(I've never played red dead so it was easy to fall down the rabbit hole). This method works well.

When crips is full, i head down to blackwater and hunt bison and sell the meat at the butcher.

Dont bother with any pelts for Crips. Just give the full body or nothing or it's not even worth the time to skin in. Whitetail deer and pronghorn 3 star are the easiest to fill a trader wagon and get the most bang for your buck... no pun intended.

Do you do the long distance sell or the local sell?

Usually the long distance one. but when I first started, I'd do short ones until my character was stronger and I had better weapons. That extra 125 can be made up fast just selling meat. Try to find a server with as few people as possible when you do long ones, if you don't have a posse.

You sell a full satchel of meat and it is more than most bounties.
