Keep getting ERR_GFX_STATE error when running on Vulkan
I resolved the problem by changing to Directx 12. The performance is slightly worse so I'd like to change it back if possible without the game crashing.

Idk why this started happening today. Had 50h+ in this game over the past week without problems. Anyone else knows how to fix this problem but still able to run on Vulkan?

I have a GTX 1060 and NIVIDA graphics card. Tried the solution on Rockstar's page and didn't work. I also tried to run benchmark but still didn't work.

No fix, no news, no patches, no infos. Game crashing online to me every few minutes. Maximum crashes is today. I got gfx error state today, never happened in 40 hours of play, but it comes today. Game is perfect but this killing game, better they delay until summer of 2020.

Did you start getting the problem just today?

Yes.

Same. I had no problem at all playing the past week or so. Only solution I found is switch to Directx 12.

Ran into this today for the first time. Spent some time fiddling around with the save data, but in the end out of nowhere it started working again.'

Do me a favor (I wanna see if this is what fixed my game): Run the complete benchmark, exit the game and start again. See if that fixes your problem.

On Vulkan right? I may try this.

My guess is something interferred with the Winter event from Red Dead Online.

Yeah, I run Vulkan as well and never changed my API.
There's a command line on the rockstar support page that they claim is a solution, it only seems to work for people who are getting the error when trying to enter into the game, not people who are just getting it randomly. Some people say deleting everything in the settings folder except settings.xml helps. I suspect there are multiple bugs causing the same error. A lot of people, myself included, think it's happening more frequently recently or weren't getting it at all and now are. I still get it in DX12 but less often and having my card overclocked makes it more likely to happen. The game just needs patched, I don't think it can be denied at this point.

It happens when I go into Story Mode. Right before I see my character, the error shows when running on Vulkan today. The launcher and main screen pages still work as usual.

Do you get it on DX12 randomly or triggered by certain events?

I’ve had this issue but i fixes it by going to the documents and click on rockstar games and find rdr2 click on settings and delete the files that says sga_ and only that file that says that

Okay the command line might help you then, you add it to the launch options in Steam:
-ignorepipelinecache

I feel like it happens when you go into an animation, brushing your horse, etc. but I think it's happened just randomly too.

I think the command line effectively does the same thing as this, those files are something to do with the pipeline cache, not that I even know what a pipeline cache is lol

I tried that with Vulkan but didn't work :(

Before this happened, my random trigger seems to be checking on maps when something else is happening on the background. I only played an hour+ today with no crash yet on DirectX 12 but it's slightly slower.

Keep crashing no matter the changes I make. RIP still love and enjoy the game. Just sucks I can't play it until a patch.

As a result, it’s difficult for anyone to reason about a program’s state at the time of the throw

I'm in the same boat. I've tried everything I could think of..

The only thing there's left to do is to wait until the next patch before I can progress through the story mode again.

Found the fix for mine. Issue just started last night after 120 hours of game time. For me, STORY MODE would ERR_GFX_STATE on save load but Online would work fine. Don't care about Online, just want to play Story. Here goes:
-i7 4790k + GTX1080Ti on Vulcan API

What DIDN'T work:
-Switch to DX12
-Changing asynccompute value back to "false"
-Change to fullscreen from windowed borderless
-Start in Online mode then load Story save
-Run PARTIAL benchmark (quitting bench early)
-Deleting .sga files
-Adding -ignorepipelinecache to launch options
-Deleting cloudsave file
-Running Windows updates
-Uninstalling and reinstalling GPU driver
-Uninstalling Nvidia GeForce Experience
-Running GPU on factory settings
-Uninstalling and reinstalling Rockstar launcher and Social Club

Here is what DID work and is VERY specific.
-Deleted .sga files
-Added -ignorepipelinecache to launch options
-Ran FULL benchmark
-Loaded Story mode save just fine
-Created a new save right away
-Deleted old save
-Quit game and started back up; loaded into Story mode just fine

Here is what bothers me: the big performance gain I had, other than switching from DX12 to Vulcan, was changing aSyncCompute to "true". It seems the -ignorepipelinechache command bypasses this value because my horrible stuttering is back even though I can launch into the game and play it now. I tried to remove the -ignorepipelinecache command and delete the .sga files but couldn't load into Story mode after that. Adding the command back to launch options allows me to load the game.

***EDIT: I was able to get asynccompute="true" to work (bringing the game back to the way I had it with pretty decent performance), but it isn't gonna be fun; here's the fix---> Don't use -ignorepipelinecache command line, and leave your .sga files where they are. Launch the game and run a FULL benchmark. Now you can load into your save. The catch? Saving, exiting and reloading results in a crash so the full bench will have to be run every time you start the game. YAAAAAY!

Rockstar really needs to fix this ♥♥♥♥; it wasn't broken for 120+hours of Story mode play until yesterday afternoon for me. The most frustrating part is that the game nor Steam nor Rockstar launcher have updated during that time. What happened?
