Stage coach and pelts

Yes I know unrelated subjects but question in both.
I never seem to be able to rob peacefully coaches or trains.
Is there something special needed?
Whenever I try they just pull their guns on me then I just have to kill all of them resulting in often messy and lose honor.

About pelts: I don’t get how it works.
If I got for example perfect cow pelt.
There’s an improvement in camp if I have some. Now if I sell that to a shop at town or butcher does that count for the improvements or do I have to go back to camp each time with acquired pelts to donate instead to be able to craft improvements?

The pelts you give to Pearson, is only available for camp upgrades. The pelts you give to the trapper, is used for crafting various clothing.

Aha maybe that's why I have so little upgrades available.

Basically, when you donate a pelt to Pearson, you're making it available to be used for a camp upgrade, but you get no money for it, whereas if you sell a pelt to a butcher, you're getting money for it, but that's it. The trapper is a bit in between in that you sell him pelts like you would a butcher, but the pelts you sell him allow him to make stuff that you can then buy from him. Regardless, none of these people share the pelts you donate or sell to them, so yeah, if you've been selling pelts to a butcher, then that's not going to help upgrade the camp at all - but on the other hand, you got cash for them, so there's that.
