1 - Try removing the gcs files in settings folder.
\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings
2 - Change to DX12 from Vulcan (worked for me)
3 - Load online, then story.
Maybe you've tried these already?
Except for ERR_GFX_STATE: which happens when loading into the world, I haven't experienced any in game crashes when I got deeper into the game.
Between 30 hours and 127 hours in to the game, I haven't had a single CTD.
Go into Documents > Red Dead Redemption > Settings > delete the 3 files that start with svga. These are the Vulkan runtime files. I played the game for long time and then all of the sudden, crash with GTR ERROR STATE.
How do you change to DX12 from Vulcan? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm not a tech guy. I am able to get online to work but not story mode.
Edit: This is also just after I bought the game. I have never played story mode because it crashes right after the loading screen and the first few lines of backstory.
