To address your other question:
FF5, gameplay wise, is pretty fun thanks to its job system. I'd dare say it's more fun to play than FF6, although I feel 6's story and characters outclass it.
SNES FF2 was one of Squaresoft's earliest attempt at a narrative first game. Because of that narrative focus, It has engaging story/characters but I feel it's a little dated, with gameplay on par with FF6.
If you were referring to the Famicom FF2, both it and Famicom FF3 are largely forgettable. They were transitory steps between the Dungeons and Dragons simulation focus of FF1 and the narrative focus of FF4 and they don't stand out in either regard as a result.
The games have been out for a year now. Why not check some review sites? You'll get more results than on this forum, which is relatively dead.
Thanks. This is what I wanted to know.
I hear ya, but I find overall review sites are pretty garbage nowadays.
Difficulty spikes aren't something I'm totally against. I started FF1 and it is waaaaay easier than the NES one (I can literally go from quest to quest with no grinding). I checked out 2 for the first time and it seems interesting with the "stuff levels as you use it" mechanic. Thanks for the info.
All I remember about that game and difficulty was the end boss was a massive endurance run.
