Agreed, you gotta work to get good at this game. It's not just mechanics. If you come to this having not played a team sport before you're gonna have a bad time until you learn fundamentals around passing and creating openings like you said. That's not even getting into hockey-specific things like cycling the puck as you mentioned matt. That is the inherent joy of it, people that stick with it *will* get better, you just gotta work for it.
Improved matchmaking will smooth this process though.

Stop commenting the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere. The game isn't dead and won't be. It's been populated since Slapshot and has a growing community that supports it and the developers.
Dead? No. But in a comma and on life support. And will remain so until they balance it or their bosses fire them, and the next people do. Or it gets bought, and they balance it. Just like CS. You can cater to the people who like it broken aka the bhop script kiddie no lifer scene. Or you try to can balance it so it is playable. The unblockable shootout ego scene isn't what most people want. And it's full and well catered to it. Might as well be 1v1 with an A.I goalie the way it's setup now.
But they probably won't work game balance, like smaller nets, easier and more options goal tending. Or even lowering stick effects on other players. Hell they aren't even giving cooldowns to the mass rage quitting. And they sure aren't going to make teams who are queued only play other teams. Even though any two half competent people on keyboard and mouse are pretty much unblockable.
When most people are coming from games with all these things already worked out. They aren't going to take your game serious when it doesn't have the basics down. I'm just going to keep using my controller and have fun with my goofy little man. There's no reason to take an unbalanced crap show seriously. And most people coming in view it as that. Like it or not.

Well yea cause some of the suggestions you made were rejected because they don't contribute to balancing. The game doesn't need to be balanced to your needs, you just need to get better. We made this game not with the intention of holding your hand and giving you participation trophies. Either you play custom games with friends and have good fun or if you want to actually climb the competition ladder you need to put in the work.
I'm also not the "employee speaking to the public". I'm the director of the studio. We're just a couple people, not some huge studio. Sure you can judge us on the quality we deliver but don't expect a AAA game when we never claimed it was.
The game is in Early Access, that is something we made clear. We're working on balancing, features and lots of other good stuff. You're free not to like it and play other games, it's free to play, you haven't wasted any money just some of your time which I would refund if I could but you decided to just waste more of it I guess.

i am a hockey player and this game is better than NHL 21, as is.
the completely manual stick handling and passing is simulation as ♥♥♥♥.
it would be cool to add more axis to the stick controls for reaching toe drags and such,
i can see that being a coding nightmare and borderline impossible given the controller,
but even without that this game satisfies the hockey itch when off the ice.
the only thing thats unfortunate is the inexperienced player base, and low population.
when everyone puck chases and cant control their player theres 6 people trapping the puck against the boards the entirety of the game.
that and the slightest amount of input lag on the stick online, i have no idea how the top players are so consistent, ill cut it up offline
ill have to get on the discord and find a group to do customs with.

LOL. You are right in the fact that nothing "has to", be anything. My point exactly. That you are catering to a super small base. Without concern for growth and your game will remain stagnant until you address it. Which if never, means. DEAD GAME. You really just proved everyone elses points perfectly. Thank you.

But I'm not a ego driven person who wants a 1v1 shoot off game with no balance. Most people coming in see it's unbalanced immediately. And are uninterested in putting effort into, "git'in gud". Because the core of the games currant model, and playstyle. Doesn't suit what a lot of people want.
Which is why I made the CS analogy. They didn't care either. Until they did... Because no one cared. But If you need to repeat others mistake to learn. That's your business not mine.
