Is it possible to upgrade the game version?

In future it may be, for now, just refund and buy another version. Steam will do that within 10-120 minutes. No questions asked.

Refund and re-buy is the only way at present. I wanted to upgrade as well.

You need to refund it and then buy the higher edition, I made a note to a dev about it and they responded it's a change they will be making to the store page later as well a bit before release. Hopefully they remember, but alas for now refund method only.

I will hold off on refunding and re-buying until the head start date gets closer, hoping the upgrade option will become available before then.

Scott from Funcom mentioned during Reddit AMA 2 weeks ago: "We will add a standard to deluxe, and standard to ultimate upgrade option before launch."
