Brutalism does fit Dune but like you said, its not attractive in long term.
However - and there i am in your base - the game lacks a LOT of decorations and stuff - there is simply nothing to make a base cozy... i really hope there will be a lot of stuff added over time.
I am a base builder - always been, and if it was for me they can scrap all PvP developement and rather put the effort into the building /decorating part :)
Considering the harshness of Arrakis - I would expect most building styles will be some form of concrete, stone or metal bunker-esque. One wouldn't build with beautifully carved wood if the next sandstorm would just blow it away =)
Heres hoping theres at least one or two styles you find to your liking.
At least it looks like Dune isn't launching with static mob meshes that just slide across the map, NPCs have functioning legs on Arrakis
On top of that you only had so much you could unlock *in terms of materials you could gather to build with*.
In regards to unlocks you also could not join factions which also unlocks a building tile set.
No access to most other vendor outposts but the 1st 2 both sold some "cosmetic decoration" blocks.
Hagga basin south is going to be mostly just boxes since people will leave that zone fairly early gameplay wise and not everyone cares about a beautiful base rather than something functional where they can just dump their loot. - Conan has years of additional content *twitch drops* & purchasable DLC for both building block tile sets & costmetic tiles but when it came out you had a few tiles of ugly on ugly on ugly and that was it.
A fellow minimalist admirer :)
