Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

Compared to Conan building in Dune are just plain Ugly.
I played the free weekend and suffered sore disappointment in the buildings. There is no creativity that could be seen not to mention the close proximity of all the buildings to each other.

Bunker style buildings of concrete are just plain ugly. One of the best features of Conan was the creativity and beauty of buildings in it. Sure there are some places that one clan will build a building close to others but this is only in certain areas. Usually they are hidden far from sight and discovery. This game need improvement in this area.

I was hoping for an actual upgrade it terms of shapes, to see circular or something that could be described as organic, but generally more freedom. Instead there's only more squares. But it is a reskin, they didn't reinvent anything.
Brutalism does fit Dune but like you said, its not attractive in long term.

I am pretty sure there are different "textures & styles" and after a bit very nice buildings will be found. In BETA most people just rushed the content and only a few did some building - and yet there already been some really creative stuff around.

However - and there i am in your base - the game lacks a LOT of decorations and stuff - there is simply nothing to make a base cozy... i really hope there will be a lot of stuff added over time.

I am a base builder - always been, and if it was for me they can scrap all PvP developement and rather put the effort into the building /decorating part :)

Check out the harkonen set at first looks very angular but when they panned out there's quite a bit more to it looks rather dark inside so goths and emo's will love it.

I personally liked the alternate CHOAM facility style we could choose during the beta - the white concrete brutalist style was quite appealing to me.

Considering the harshness of Arrakis - I would expect most building styles will be some form of concrete, stone or metal bunker-esque. One wouldn't build with beautifully carved wood if the next sandstorm would just blow it away =)

Heres hoping theres at least one or two styles you find to your liking.
When CE launched we got sandstone, insulated wood/stonebrick and black ice build sets. In terms of decorations there were what...3 skanky rugs, a couple of rickety wooden chairs and tables with the game's deco aspect being rounded off by some basic wall banners and the trophy heads....now, 8 years later...we have options, options, options. I suspect Funcom knows the in-game value of 'personalized cozy' so more will come, I am sure (e.g. I saw in one of their videos somewhere about plans for 3(?) more great houses with associated architecture/deco.)
At least it looks like Dune isn't launching with static mob meshes that just slide across the map, NPCs have functioning legs on Arrakis:cozybethesda:....yep, CE launch was rough....

Weekend beta was a time limited event. People wanted to explore, fight, test things.
On top of that you only had so much you could unlock *in terms of materials you could gather to build with*.
In regards to unlocks you also could not join factions which also unlocks a building tile set.
No access to most other vendor outposts but the 1st 2 both sold some "cosmetic decoration" blocks.
Hagga basin south is going to be mostly just boxes since people will leave that zone fairly early gameplay wise and not everyone cares about a beautiful base rather than something functional where they can just dump their loot. - Conan has years of additional content *twitch drops* & purchasable DLC for both building block tile sets & costmetic tiles but when it came out you had a few tiles of ugly on ugly on ugly and that was it.
