Conan Exiles average daily player count on Steam is around 6000 to 7000 players and peaked at over 53,000. I'm sure Dune: Awakening will do just fine.
It will need 2 years of polish and content to be worth anything close to $50 and by that time will be 70% off on sales.

In two years it'll probably have enough DLC that buying it all costs 130€.
The devs should have launched it as an early access release for $30 and added some cosmetic packs for people who want to support the game.
At a lower price point, the game would attract a lot more players, and expectations wouldn’t be too high for an early access release. This would allow the devs to keep improving the game without facing backlash and losing potential players.
They could have made the price lower if if was their IP like Conan Exiles is, but in this case they have to pay license fees for the IP. While those are probably not as high as Marvel or Star Wars licenses would be, I'm sure the recent Dune movies have driven up the value quite a bit.
If the daily peaks of concurrent players were around 140k by the end of the year, the launch peak would have to be pretty big, maybe around half a million players with the game selling millions of copies. But it would have to be a huge hit like Valheim for that to happen.
