The references to Conan is more in how the player moves about the world and is able to climb, and how the players travels between pockets of enemies that generally have poor loot.
It would be productive to watch a few video's of each. You will see pretty quick.
In CE there are a bunch of different melee weapons each of which has it's own move set and tactics. In DA there are knives and swords both of which have a normal and a slow attack for use against shielded enemies.
In CE there are bows and thrown weapons. In DA there are a variety of different ranged weapons each of which has their own effects.
Funcom considers only knives and swords as canon in Dune, so it is unlikely they will carry over CE's melee moves.
There is an invisibility spell in CE, but it has minimal utility so no real stealth game play.
from my brief time playing CE, i think the melee had a sort of combo system. how does that feel in CE when deeper into the game, does it grow on you, or was it a big part of the game for you? i get your point about DA being more gun focused, but i wonder if they can make knives and swords feel like they do in CE, and maybe throw a axe in DA for safe measure. i doubt it will detract anything from the lore.
theres an ability i used during beta that you can mask and have an enemy not aggro you as if you went invisible.
It works with any bow. Really get a basic bow so you can repair it with grass and twigs.
- poison cloud arrows
- two handed sword
- shortsword
- two handed maul as long as you forfeit its finisher. Egh.
And the other weapons you just dismantle for materials.
After 7 years a treebark shield is as good as a legendary shield.
While we see some conan presence, the mechanics are greatly improved. The combat is way better in dune, more complexe and allows some really nice possibilities. Skills changes a lot, plus there is the TPS with guns.
About buildings, it's really appealing, you have even more building possibilities than in Conan (more type of pieces), which allows to build really nice places.
bottom line its something you will endure not enjoy.
But you never played the beta. So how did you PvP again at the Pallas shipwreck?
Besides the expanded building(That everyone copied) and climbing there isn´t really much equal with Conan. Everything moved forward a lot in those 7 years while Conan for obvious reasons couldn´t. Friend and I had no "similarity" feeling with Conan despite we both used over 1000 hours in it.
