Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

JUST DESERT
I'm more or less just worried about 2 things; The whole playing area being just a big desert; how immersive will the world be? I worry it will start all looking alike and being very blah to look at after a while. .. I know its sticking with "Lore" the planet was pretty barren .. but does it make for a fun experience or would embellishing a little since its an MMO, (like how they changed the story and she has a girl instead) make things more interesting for the players?
I don't care if there are no oasis, but plants, trees etc would be nice along with animals even if just the small rodent sizes .. just empty with a few bandits and a worm .. will that be enough ?

2nd concern is for PVE players how soon will the grind of just doing the same things in the PVE zone before it starts to feel like mindless grinding .. and for what, just to make money on the markets? I hope to get into the PVP, I've always played on PVP servers, but this game in order to have fun at the PVP sounds to me like you better find a good guild and that usually means one is so large others cant compete against them anyways. I see it in Throne and Liberty already. One guild to rule them all basically lol. anyways this is whats on my mind.

They will make other planets in the future. This is a desert planet. The spice will flow.

True, i also just found the extra DLC's they have planned (4 of), so sounds like it wont be as bad as i first envisioned, =)
it's a valid concern. And one Funcom are aware of (they have stated so in the live-streams).

There are dungeons called Geo-stations that were involved with the abandoned terraforming activities on the planet and are full of vegetation.

Also, please note: Geo-Stations AKA Eco-Labs are PvE-only and can be enjoyed solo or with up to 4 players. You’ll also find an instanced story mode woven into the game, adding around 80–100 hours of gameplay to complete.

That's the one! Thanks for clarifying. I could not at the time.

Fun fact- Arrakis wasn't always a desert planet. Who knows what weird stuff is underground. And it does have polar ice caps. Having said that- it is currently a big desert with wurms so that does place some limitations.

Most games make the trees blue instead of green and that seems to keep their players happy- so maybe gameplay will have to be the focus here rather than colored trees.

Arrakis is a desert planet and we have known that from the beginning. They haven't hidden it so you know what you are getting into when you look at the game.

But there are certain areas where there are different biomes. The great crevasse is one. It has no sand worms in it and we haven't seen all that is in it so it may contain free water and biomes.

Also, one of the DLC's is rumored to be at one of the poles of the planet with frozen ice terrain.

So just with the minor things we know about, Arrakis is not quite pure desert. We just have to wait to see what else we can find to explore.
Dune is a desert planet, so having it be anything else from the lore would actually break the immersion.

Definition of dune: a hill or ridge of sand piled up by the wind.

The game will be mostly about environment with a lot of sand in it. Who could've seen that coming.
Mind you, deserts can be really beautiful, its not just the sand, also rocks with fancy shapes. I'm not even being sarcastic, wind is amazing sculptor.

mostly most players nows arrakis based on the films so for all people arrakis its a "desert" , but when you read both the books from f. herbert and his son , we discovers what is arrakis the past and the futur , arrakis can't be just to resume based of the first book , dunes part 1 and dunes part 2 ( and even on those 2 first books we learn arrakis its more complex as a simple " desert " planet :)

i hope dev , studio build the lore based on the books on not some sort of gimmick of what we can see on surface on the the previous recent film .

Look at the Star Wars Planet of Tatooine.........yeah Planet. It has already been stated some where that we might get shuttle access to other Planets in this game. I just hope they don't chop the game up. I want this game to keep a Vanilla Dune Planet.

do we know how big the map is?
Blowfeld Apr 25 @ 12:13pm
I think the desert will bore me after roughly 30 minutes and sandworms will beome annoying after like the 10th encounter.

I love DUNE, just do not see myself enjoying a survival mmo in this setting.

Desert is one thing Funcom is Good at. =)

I want to get a spaceship and shoot lasers in space. Is that on the roadmap?
