Yes, in some ways it feels like GW2 and ESO, but it's not an MMO. The game has a large zone called Hagga Basin where you'll complete many quests and progress through a significant portion of the story. As you reach higher levels, you'll steadily advance through the PVE/PVP parts of Hagga Basin, leading you to the Deep Desert's edge, where most of the gameplay is still PVE.
But the biggest part of the game is located in the center of the Deep Desert. This area is mainly focused on PVP, driven by community guilds engaged in a full-on war for the spice. The size of this area is approximately eight times larger than Hagga Basin and changes every week due to a massive sandstorm that wipes out everything within the Deep Desert.
Inside the Deep Desert, you can find dungeons called Eco-labs, where you can discover various schematics and blueprints for all sorts of buildable items in the world. Additionally, the game features a fully player-driven economy, adding depth to the gameplay experience.
So throughout your journey in the world of Dune, you will encounter numerous points of interest, towns, camps, and world events. As you progress and conquer your place in the game, you will discover a multitude of unique and engaging experiences. Prepare to immerse yourself in a rich, ever-evolving world filled with countless opportunities for exploration and adventure.
Thank you for the detailed reply.
From what I read, it seems that the core game is not fully built around and for pve.
I rarely ever PVP in GW2 and ESO. Maybe very few times I did as they were in specific arenas not tied to any major PVE progression in those games.
Here, from the sound of it the PVE gamers will basically be forced into PVP at the latter end of the game/progression systems?
Did i read this right?
It was not exactly clear so I don't want to assume/
Don't let the phrase PVP turn you off. The zone is FREAKING GINORMOUS and it's not that hard to avoid big groups and go for smaller scores.
PVE activity in a PVP zone is still PVP gameplay.
I have played these types in my past.
Well this sounds like a PVP game/
I wish PVPers well.
Not every game is for everyone.
I just wanted to know what this was.
The info on this game is very unclear everywhere on the internet.
Appreciate the responses.
If you're primarily interested in PVE games, consider trying some of these upcoming titles: Elden Ring: Nightreign, Subnautica 2 and Terminator: Survivors.
For MMOs: Chrono Odyssey offers a choice between PVE, PVP, or both, depending on the server you select. Soulframe will also be a Full PVE MMO. Additionally, Light no Fire in 2026 I think or later.
For Guild Wars 2, there are two massive updates on the horizon, ESO has one significant update coming soon. If you're looking for something a bit different, you might want to check out Anvil Empires, which bears similarities to Albion Online, and last but not least Fellowship, an MMO dungeon adventure game.
As for Dune Awakenings, there's a possibility that the developers may launch a PVE/RP-only server in the future. Until then, continue exploring different games and have fun on your quest to find the perfect game that best suits your preferences and provides the most enjoyable gaming experience.
Good luck.
The PvP zones are actually PvPvE zones. There will be NPC's and the usual environment risks to survive even for the PvP players. And PvP players are forced to do PvE as well or they won't be successful at the game.
PvE players have access to all parts of the game, they just have to take the RISK of PvP when going into the endgame zone. PvP is not a guaranteed result there, as the map is 500 square kilometers in size and it's far more likely for the roaming bands of PvP players to come across each other than a single PvE player who's there just to mine some rocks.
That's still PVP.
In Fortnite you can avoid PVP and do side objectives for the skin progression but the ultimate chokepoint is still PVP.
It's the same here. The danger is still a PVP threat not a PVE threat.
The chokepoints (farm spots, extractions, entry/exits etc) dictates a PVP threat
I am not against PVP.
I play other PVP games intentionally wanting PVP.
From everything I have been reading for the past 2 days, this is conclusively a PVP game with early PVE as bait.
This game is not for me and it does not need to change for me as I have other PVE games to play.
I wish the PVP'ers a thriving PVP game.
Will be nothing like those games.
These types of hybrid zones always just end up being gank zones for chinese/russian zergs or hunting grounds for cheaters and client abusers. So for all intents and purposes if you have PVE content in a zone with open PVP its a pvp zone; unless you get lucky during off-hours these zones will be rife with botting and cheating since pvp guilds will engage in competitive hoarding or monopolisation of these zones through any means necessary, you see it in every single mmorpg or open world survival game with this content, its a playground for the aforementioned guilds.
As far as we know, based on the developers' comments, there will be Raids, but they will come later after the 3rd faction is introduced in the game. Raids will function as a World Event, more or less like the Spice Wars that occur when a spice blow happens. However, nothing has been revealed about the content of Raids.
On the other hand, dungeons will be available, and they reset every week. The loot inside is linked to the dungeon and its layout, and these dungeons are randomly generated. Some of them are quite massive. At the end of each dungeon, there will always be a boss, but it will always be a humanoid as far as we know. So, no weird or strange monsters yet. The bosses will have different appearances, armors, weapons, traps, and abilities.
In Dune: Awakening, dungeons are called Eco-labs, which are underground research facilities scattered across the desert. These Eco-labs resemble vaults from Fallout, being abandoned, varied, and filled with diverse experiments. Some Eco-labs have been taken over by slavers, while others are overgrown.
Now, we know that the Deep Desert is split into different sectors, and it's speculated that there are at least 1 or 2 Eco-labs per sector. This means there could be anywhere from 8 to 16 Eco-labs to explore fresh every week, giving players plenty to do if they want to venture into these dungeon-like areas, provided they can locate them all.
it's important to remember that all of this is speculation based on the information available so far. While it's fun to theorize and imagine what the game will be like, we won't know for sure until the game is released and we can experience it firsthand. So, it's always a good idea to keep an open mind and be prepared for surprises when the game finally launches. 😄
