its not like conan exiles and its not an MMO but it has MMO elements + many new stuff mixed into this genre. The survival aspect (grind, crafting) is much easier compared to other survival. It feels actually quite fresh and good. The real survival aspect to fight the sun etc is smth else.

There is a lot of Dune inside this game. Many game system + mechanics are Dune lore friendly. If you have no idea about the dune universe some things will confuse you. I think its made for real Dune fans and for those who wanna become dune fans :D

Funcom actually has a good track record. Just because they create niche games and didn't hit monster sales, doesn't mean a bad track record. Have you played Secret World?

Conan Exiles has 8k regular players and that's just Steam numbers. Up to 20k daily active players across all platforms.
its a hybrid of mmo/survival sandbox so consievably if you choose, you could play it like exiles and focus on base building and mat gathering and delve into the odd dungeon.
youd be missing half the content though in the form of the more traditional mmo questing etc.

so...its more like an actual MMO? coz conan exiles had a few quests in it, not like an MMO's style as far as i remember.

From what I hear people enjoyed AoC. Since you love Conan Exile then you'll probably also love Dune Awakening

the devs describe it as a survival sandbox with mmo features, so youd say it's more like exiles than your examples of wow and ff, but it has the mmo elements of a social hub and npcs that give quests etc there too. as for your other questions about dedicated server hosting, i'd say it likely wont be officially supported.

Exactly.

As for private servers they're coming at a later date but it'll be connected to an official world server, so no editing parameters or adding mods.

hmmm as per what spacebard said its sounding like its more MMO, then Conan exiles :\

is/will there be a full fledged single player, or is it going to be a log in choose a server, then your character is tied to said server? or is it like valheim and do i choose my character and then join a server lol

ahhh ok so its going to follow in the dev steps Conan exiles took then? coz IIRC conan exiles when it launched the private servers were very basic compared to how they are now

For me, it felt like Conan Exiles with more tasks. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the PvP areas during the beta weekend, so I can't say much about that.

There will be a lot of new stuff but they are carrying over some assets from Conan. This is a common industry tactic, so before anyone claims "asset flip" check how my assets Rockstar reuses.

The Journey system from Conan was carried over, and I really enjoyed Dune's version but that could be because I was loving the UI.

Think of the game more more like a survival game within the first 100hrs. Then when you progress to the final area called the Deep Desert you'll encounter both PvE and pvp. Pvp bring completely optional. Though the main area bring pvp, you can still explore it's massive map. Bigger than any other survival game.

Then at end game you help your faction doing either spice harvesting or running logistics, exploring, surveying to sell on auction houses, or 4 man dungeon type instances.

Its not optional.
But there are ways to contribute to your faction/guild by doing crafting or PvE missions.

The final area called the "Deep Desert" will reset and change every week. Its huge, so i think it should be possible for small scale and solo players. But in this zone you are PvP enabled.
That said, you only drop "spice" you have gathered and other inventory items you have gathered, not any gear.

Yeah the option is there if you want to dive into pvp or not.

The Deep Desert is full pvp flagged except for a 24km section that's a safe zone but once you cross over into the sand dune area, you're fully flagged. You'll recieve a warning letting you know other players can attack you. Friendly fire is also a thing.

If that worries you, then know that the map is huge. Think DayZ but significantly larger. I rarely ran into players in that game but I was also steering clear of hotspots but sometimes ♥♥♥♥ happens.

If you die you don't lose everything. However you will if you die to a sandworm or during Landsraad events that specifically state that you will for that entire week.

I think its going to be interesting to see how much of the Deep Desert are actual places you can interact with, actual places to farm spice, high lvl gear, high lvl crafting material, blueprints etc etc

And if its possible for solo players to do anything at all.

On the map that the developers showed, it looked like it was only 5-10 interesting places to go, and if all those only have group content, i will run out of things to do quite fast. Because i plan to mostly solo, at least the first few weeks to see if its possible.

I guess i will find out in a few days

Me too. I'll dabble a little with guilds but I likely won't have much time to play as much as I would like.

I believe they section you saw on the stream was one square and there's like 81 of those squares. Not all squares will have stuff in them, maybe a crashed ship. The major areas will change and will be hot spots to attract large groups.

While a full on guildvguild battle may be going on in one area, you and 3 others can do those dungeon like areas and find some cool schematics.

Then again, this is all on paper. Who knows what players will look to break. 😅
