The cell phone requirement, while a little invasive, is a strong deterrent against trolls and bots. The last thing either can deal with is actual accountability.

I'm not certain on the TOS but I would like to think that they are using this strictly as a security feature and are not selling that info. Somewhat skeptical, but that is the way it is.

And its just for security, they dont send you anything over sms or call you, its for you account security.

THey need your cell phone so they have a bigger share of your information when they sell it. there is nothign in the discord you need.

ok maybe for new discord accounts but i've been with discord for years and multiple games. so really there's no fooking reason at all ...

You make a choice. if you want to participate, you follow the rules set out. This was done in the name of killing spammers, scammers, bots, and trolls. If they have to give that info to talk, then then wont bother as it becomes a much higher hurdle in order to get a new account / phone number.

In Norway your cell number is connected to your social acc number, tax numbers, so I feel ya.

If we are going to go that route......

Take all the money out of your bank account and close it. How many times has there been a breach that exposes people social security numbers and private information.
Get rid of your cell phone because it can be tracked, and the providers have been hacked before.
Use cash only everywhere, cant even use a cash app, because those can be hacked.
Get rid of your credit card because the shops have been hacked before and so has the CC company.
Get a po box mailing address.
Cancel your drivers license because that database can be breached. Cancel your voter registration because that can be compromised.
Get rid of your car because you cant legally drive it now, also it can be tracked by the license and vehicle registration in a database somewhere.


This can go on and on and on...
If you use ANY services, you risk information necessary to that service, or as a security mechanism, being leaked. This is our modern reality. Unless you choose to totally disconnect from society and live in a self sufficient cabin in the woods somewhere.

I understand that this is being pedantic, and there is a difference between low risk and high risk information. Also not freely giving out personal information. But you get to a point where that information is already freely available publicly for those that want to find it.

Was my problem there but its common now with large discord channels, I dont own a mobile either so can only browse channels but to post you need to select a role which will require a mobile number registered, I understand the extra security feature, Its just the way of the world now.
