40 players at a time per Hagga Basin 'home' server - multiple Hagga Basin servers per world server. ~800-1000 players per world server or thereabouts.
If you've played Conan Exiles - or really any survival game, you already know the basics. Follow storyline and side missions, gather materials, build bases, craft gear/vehicles, loot blueprints and so on.
You don't have to play constantly if you're just playing solo or with a friend or two. It works just fine at your own pace.

Sorry I should have said no 'battle' passes. There is a season pass which gives you access to upcoming DLC.
You will never see a 1000 players at a time, the most you will see is 30ish.
A lot of us here play other games. You'll easily spend 100's of hours into the game, but there's no FOMO.
