You can also look it another way, you only want the ornithopter skin..
I don't mind PvP but I've always enjoyed building in "survival" games etc. Hence my concern of ending up being artificially locked out of components due to faction (such is not an element in say Conan Exiles). * Again, not talking proper DLC/store additions but things that might get added to an existing set vs. being their own stand alone addition).
I don't much care for either the Atreides or the Harkonnen. I was always more fond of other factions/houses such as Ix, the Bene Theilax, House Ordos (Dune Encyclopedia and Westwood etc.) and some of the other "secondary houses". The traditional principal protagonists are not as interesting to me (ie. the proverbial white hat/black hat). It's why I'll likely look to the 3rd faction (scavengers/smugglers or whatever it is) once it releases.
That said, I'll also be looking to maximise techs/sets/skins etc. before swapping a faction in case that locks me out of something that would interest me. I don't plan to have multiple characters to go down all the paths in a singular sense per character. I'd like one character who can aesthetically build almost anything.
But choices matter.
It may well not be possible to have all things from all factions on one toon. However, there will always be a "most efficient" path towards that goal or "best bang for the buck". I'm just not sure what that is at this juncture.
I never said anything about having an advantage.
I want all the building materials et al.
My concern is about how additional content will be rolled out and/or modifications made to existing content and then being faction locked out of such down the road after one has swapped around. ie. Primary A building set is 10 piece, Primary H building set is 10 pieces. Join one get set. Leave and join other get set. No issues or lack of clarity here., However, if then Funcom were to update something in an existing set -- lets say add 3 additional pieces to each set (Xmas bonus whatever), does that automatically update for anyone who had the base set or does it become faction locked and unclaimable for anyone who has already swapped around factions etc.?
Conan Exiles has worked where, if there is an issue or omission in a given set, and then the set gets updated, anyone who has the set gets the update. Dune: Awakening has content locked behind factions. My concern is that future modification of existing faction content, may not be applied to those who have said content but are now of a different faction.
As such, I'm trying to figure out the best and/or most reliable way to get as much content as possible under a single character as, once one leaves a faction you cannot rejoin said faction etc. etc.
