As far as we know the whole game is variations of desert, but other biomes are planned for the future.
🤣🤣🤢🤮
I wouldn't worry about water collection, devs have balanced it well and there are multiple gameplay loops for it with plenty of automation.
The desert landscape of the endgame also procedurally changes once every week, so that should extend the hours before boredom sets in quite a lot.
Being a fan of the setting helps a lot though, I'm of the type who can easily play this game for hundreds of hours but I'm a big fan. Without that, you could maybe have 50 hours before you feel like you've had enough, depending on your attention span. I've got ADHD myself so I know how it can be with video games.
But even just 50 hours costs you only 1 dollar/euro per hour. That's heck of a lot better than a movie ticket.
