Dune: Awakening

Will this game support dedicated servers?
Hi there,

Now before all of you PVP nerds out there want to jab at me and tell me to "git gud", please let me say that I would prefer having a dedicated server where I don't get griefed, base raided and I don't have to deal with annoying PVP raiding other people's base. Like myself, I enjoy building and having fun at my own pace. I want to build and invite my friends for fun.

I know that I will get a lot of hate by PVP campers and wannabe PVP harasser that wants to feel good and PK players and laugh about it or even tea-bag the players who wants to mind their own business. Not everyone is a PVP player....

I suggest checking out the Q&A to get a better idea of what this game aims to be. There's plenty for several types of players and the've addressed that.

Long answer, still no.

You will never be raided outside of the Deep Desert area. Very few POI are PvP. Easily avoided though may contain required loot. You are free to farm, build and explore at your own pace. The planet itself will kill you far more times than any player.

the only thing you have to worry about in hagga basin is getting resources from shipwrecks which are pvp zones and powering / buying your base.

IF you fail to power your base or pay taxes your base will be unshielded and slowly destroyed. It's an arguably bad system in place to prevent people from grabbing land then logging off and never coming back.

Private servers for hagga basin will be coming sometime after launch although im not sure if they are rented/self-hosted or if you can turn off the base timer.

Now for PvP vs PvE if you want endgame resources you'll have to go into the forced pvp area where you will likely not come out with a profit OR buy said resources off the player-driven market at what I will assume will be exorbitant prices as you will be competing with all the other PvE players.

Having played in the beta, and not being interested in PVE at all, everything being said here above is accurate, even down to the design of the game and how the deep desert works.

There are a few places outside the deep desert where you will be warned about PvP, and you have a short but reasonable countdown timer to turn about and leave (5 seconds, iirc), so if you are hellbent on avoiding it at all cost, it's not difficult.

The area I saw in beta had access to a rare material, and it appears these materials will all be tradable between players on the exchange, even spice. From what I have gathered (sorry if this is common knowledge, but I haven't read up too much on the game, and kinda am going off just what I experienced), spiced infused materials were needed for unique blueprints to be made, and hence will probably be the true drive for collecting or wishing to purchase that spice. If so, you ARE going to want it.

So basically, if you give up PvP, then expect to take up trade.

This sounds very bad. I may as well avoid this game then until they add dedicated servers for their game or allow 3rd party to support dedicated servers. Sorry, not going to waste my time in PVP zone and trying to leave with mats then get shot or killed. No thank you...

Makes sense to me and that's new info and glad to know! Cheers!

And trading sounds perfect for me these days. Let the young folk do all the fighting while us "old" folk churn up wars for them to fight. 🤔😀

Long answer: the company is going for the long-term survival mode so the save money on everything, from combat design to animations to limited beta tester waves where paying clients could not access the beta from the beginning...

TL;DR whatever you wish about the game the answer is "no", always, even if you'll buy their company and throw billions into development :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
No private server = A no go for me. Game communities are toxic and make every game suck.

This keeps popping up, but again, private servers are planned at a later date. My guess is when the first initial hype simmers down, and servers are merged, then private servers will start becoming a thing. Check back then if you want.

They will have to have private servers sooner or later.... there will be soo much demand for it, I see no reason why not since they did it with Conan Exiles

This is factually wrong. The Devs have stated they're looking into Private Servers.
