I tried the game, and it’s terrible. My advice—don’t buy it.

Hi— I hadn’t played this game until yesterday; I spent about ten hours in it yesterday.

The game has awful artificial intelligence and a monotonous, empty world that isn’t fun to explore.

Its combat system is as bad and cheap as it gets, complete with laughable animations. The weapons feel utterly hollow—everything seems plastic. Melee combat is downright horrible, like something from a 2000s-era game. Character animations and movement feel like a $5 indie title.

Performance is also very poor. I have 32 GB of RAM, a Ryzen 5 5600X, and an RTX 4060—and the game can’t even maintain a steady 50 FPS. Guys, this is Unreal Engine 5—do you realize that? With such a huge world, you’d think they’d optimize it properly, but no. Even in the opening areas, where there’s almost nothing—just sand, a few rocks, and a cave—the game still drops to around 45 FPS. And imagine PvP, with two or three players on screen, plus vehicles or raid bases… it’s scary to even think about.

This shouldn’t be a $50 game in this condition; it feels like early access. Look at their previous title, Conan Exiles—released in early access years ago, and they still haven’t fixed the stupid AI, the terrible combat system and animations, or the awful performance.

And here we are again with all the same problems.

I’m really sorry—so sorry—that the game is this bad, because I had high hopes for it. My advice: don’t you dare pre-order. Wait for release and see the reviews—that’s probably going to be only 50–60% positive on Steam.

i'd mostly agree - but we cant rate Endgame.
What i also know from Funcom and what i really asked myself yesterday is this:
Where are the Mobs? There is literally 1-2, dont hope for 3 outside of a bigger Base in the Haga Basin Enemies in each camp and you can outperform them drunk, high, with one eye closed.
Zero Cooperation needed and zero challenge, other than not have 5 players run around that area looking for loot or a questitem - All Bases i need to investigate for Quest or Progress were almost empty,
But then you are somewhere and 2 guys repop in your back. I didnt die, still no challenge, but well, not a good experience.

Im good with weapon sounds and usage, know it is not Bungie or ID Soft, but Funcum with a more RPGish Shooter System like Outer Worlds/ Fallout or alike.
There is definetely some sort of aim assist in place.

Performance for me is ok, but i dont look up if i have XX FPS - i7,4070tis, 32gb ram, SSD
BUT: I've seen some serious Server hickups that almost killed me, because i could not reach the shadows and was set back a few 100m allways, but my chars thirst and HP were draining. I finally reached a spot i could survive and wait for the Server to be reliant again.

And i have seen other players cause me lag or lag themself.
Well this is kind of a stress test, for PVP with hundreds of players we have to wait and test performance ourself again.
Possibly no worries, but also possibly more rubberbanding and lag incoming.

My biggest concern - we didnt play the game and what it is like after 50 or 100 hours.
We dont know it will really work out in the Deep Desert.
Will it be a slugfest, will it be a lagfest, is PvP balanced, with the skills i saw it may be not fun to get stomped with nothing you can do about it.
Or will there be so much space and sand and loot and locations that you can be the lonely scavenger having an eye on the horizon and the fastes sandbike of the planet or the classes and all is well balanced and a test of playerskill?
How many large guilds and trained groups will be around vs. soloplayers, casuals....

I bet they use a SBMM for the DEEP Desert clusters, but no evidence.

I'm still not sure what they are heading too.
large PVP scale battles or more of a Battle Royale with solo to small team fights?

the merch and hype was big, but i also dont see the game beeing recognized positive, but more mixed.

I'm still thinking about a refund, but i'll play a little more today and maybe just start over again at release and see what happens over the time.

I'm, not hooked like played 10hrs a day since i could, and really dont know if it's a game for me.

It's Funcom guys. Don't waste your money.
Ratsmon May 11 @ 1:32am
Generic, waste of developer talent game that hits 500,000 players in first few days then drops to below reasonable amounts for its category in the following 2-3 months.

Penis structures and 4x4 cubes all over the place in the first week, wow so refreshing haven't seen that get released for 5 days now on steam!

MTX with people looking like Iron Man and Black Panther in the desert in the 2nd month of release because expensus :(((

Your walls are generic clay dirt but if you pay 500$ + get the ultimate final rank in the battlepass you can get this rare ARRAKIS (trademark) diamond walls!!

Can't wait for the penisriders battalion to form in this forum to defend being milked for nothing. GG boyz.

i'm really not obsessed with FPS, if i can play without lag and 30+fps i'm fine.
Well this said, i stilldont know where the PVP is going to, because then FPS is more important.
But from what i've played and shot, well like i said this isnt a shooter, your aim is a circle.
It feels like a controller game with aim assist.
So i dont think it's important.

Based on my experience with Anarchy Online, Age of Conan, and TSW, Funcom likes to heavily front load their games. Take Age of Conan for example. Tortuga Island starting area. Praised for being fully voiced, narrated and well done.

The moment you step out of that and go into mainland you notice there's no more voice acting and quests start to fall off. Eventually you get to level 50ish and you were then expected to grind to 80 with no quests. Dungeons felt incomplete, loot was a disaster, classes like assassin were broken, and when I say broken I mean broken, not OP broken. and many parts of the world incomplete.

So if anything I have come to learn that with Funcom games the intro will be where the game is best and the deeper you go their games dry up.

I would expect content to be added at around the level and frequency of Conan Exiles. Who knows, if this game doesn't retain the playerbase they want maybe this game might get a relaunch to allow for private servers and offline games, basically a shift to the Conan Exiles model. For some reason I have a gut feeling that will happen.

Another redflag is the millions they are spending on the top streamers to play their game.

They done a huge streamer event ystd, if you watched the gameplay there especially pvp you know that this game needs at least 2 more years development. There is no way I purchase it in this state. If you want a survival game in better state from these devs, Conan Exiles is the key. Other than that, this game hell na.

Your 5600X is too weak for your RTX 4060, creating a performance bottleneck. You also need to use DLSS and frame generation in every game that has these available to you as your build is not high end and therefore not suitable for running things in native resolution.

I'm on a 5800X3D & RX 6800 OC edition GPU and run the game with better framerates at 4k than you, with high settings. I use FSR3 and frame gen.

Game indeed demand a lot of performance for only barrens of sand. And 5600x isnt "too weak" for 4060.
This is why beta tests and demos are important. Idk who thinks this business model of buying a game we can't even try first is acceptable to anyone.
This is why game rentals were a thing.

agree, my brother and 2 friends also wanted to buy this with me, looks way too clunky and weird. gonna pass that one. will remain on my wishlist tho in case it might be better after 1 year of patching or change drastically.

agree on that - played AoC at release to 70, played Tabula Rasa, tried Conan Exiles.
It's Funcom and their games are somewhat okaish, but not longterm.
I mean things can change. I love the Dune IP, but even with new movies and old movies and games i'm not fully pleased with what i would like to see after reading the books.
