Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

Disappointed
I was hoping for a Singleplayer/Co-Op Survival RPG set in the Dune universe, instead it seems to be another PvP focused survival-craft MMO in the same vein as Rust or Ark Survival Evolved. What a disappointment.

Edit:
Jesus, this thread turned into a cesspit. You all need to chill. I just wanted to air out my disappointment with this game's direction, not start a flame war. Enough with the name calling and insults, Sheesh.

Do you not know how games work?

Correct. Open pvp and survival crap = the biggest cancer in games history (together with moba / hero / loot shooter games).
They removed the mmo acronym because it's not an mmo game and was never meant to be. It's another pointless survival with channels of 50-100 players and toxic open pvp that can kill even the best game.
If I wanted to play pvp I have BF, CoD, CS.

It's 2025, not 2005, no one is interested in playing parties anymore.
Nowhere in the acronym mmo does it say anything about party or coop playing.
In all the biggest and most popular mmo on the market 90-95% of players play solo because a normal person who has a job, who has a family, has no time for any party and the facts are that only children have friends with whom they are supposed to play. In adult life this is not the case.

I would also love a story driven single player game set in the Dune universe but this game was advertised to be exactly what it is... so you should probably be disappointed in being functionally illiterate than disappointed at the game being what it describes itself as.

100% correct.

Did you not read ANYTHING or watch any of the dev videos about this game? in what sense did this ever look like a solo crafting game. Why do so many people on steam act like they have the mental capacity of an 8 year old.

Save yourself future disappointment and spend 5 minutes looking into a game first.

I personally didn't, but I enjoy the dune setting. I should've guessed funcom would find a way to ♥♥♥♥ it up, now that I look into the game they're proposing. Sounds like age of conan cancer all over again, or whatever that awful funcom conan pvp mmo was called.

Generally good advice if one has the time.

Brutally true after the age of 30

No need for insults like that. I really didn't look into it until today, I only saw some scattered videos on it during the playtests a few month back.

There no need for insults man, I literally only bothered to look into it today after watching a few playtest videos month back. ♥♥♥♥ me for not picking up on the finer details then I guess.

Nah, my best guess for the future, given the current AI-bro controlled tech market, is LLM powered adaptive NPCs. Think integrated ChatGPT on every Character.

PvP was the "Future" in 1999, thats why Quake 3 was a mostly online Arena shooter.

Then you need to work on your time management and social skills and find better employment. Educate yourself on investment and begin a portfolio instead of spending it on games or digital content for a few years. Unless you have zero life skills and are cleaning toilets or flipping patties then its just a matter of building yourself a portfolio carefully and intelligently instead of taking vacations or spending on non-essentials for a few years. Plenty of us adults 30+ with families and jobs make the time to spend with a clan or party. Assuming your failure at managing time in adulthood applies to an entire age group is absurdly egotistical and shortsighted. That attitude indicates where some of your problems likely originate. Also the top five MMOs on the market those metrics are vastly incorrect. You should check player census sources for more accurate information. Its not even thirty percent. Two of them are in the high twenties percentile for solo players and that's it. SMH. Don't make up excuses then use those excuses to try and justify your own failures or you will continue to miss out on some of the better experiences life has to offer. The majority of which are social both online and off.

♥♥♥♥, I guess I'm doing it wrong by having a well paying job, a family, and hobbies outside of games while still also having time to play games with friends.

They are just huffing copium because they don't want to work to improve their own lives and apparently no one wants them in their party because of either their negative attitude or lack of skill to contribute. Unsure about the latter but negativity is very clear and no community likes having that in it.
