As a long-time follower of Dune: Awakening, having pre-purchased the highest-tier package and actively supported the game’s development through community engagement, I was deeply disappointed by the beta access selection process. The decision to prioritize streamers over dedicated fans has left many loyal supporters feeling overlooked, raising questions about fairness and the game’s community-building approach.

The Dune universe, rich with intricate lore and a passionate fanbase, deserves a beta process that reflects its depth and values. While streamers can amplify visibility, many selected participants appear to lack genuine interest in the game’s narrative or world, focusing instead on views and subscriptions. This contrasts sharply with fans who have invested time, money, and enthusiasm since the game’s announcement, only to be excluded from the beta weekend.

Funcom’s marketing strategy is understandable—streamers bring exposure. However, alienating core supporters risks undermining the goodwill built over years of anticipation. A more balanced approach, such as reserving spots for top-tier pre-purchasers or active community members alongside streamers, could have fostered inclusivity. Transparency about the selection criteria would also help mitigate frustration.

The game itself remains promising, with its gritty Arrakis setting and ambitious survival mechanics. Yet, the beta access experience highlights a disconnect between the developers and their most ardent fans. I urge Funcom to reconsider their approach. Ensuring that loyalty and passion for Dune are rewarded alongside promotional efforts. A thriving community, not just streaming metrics, will ultimately sustain Dune: Awakening’s legacy.

No one would have said anything if Funcom had said, "Okay, we'll give away some beta keys this weekend to all the streamers who are already playing." It wouldn't have been a problem; everyone would have tried their luck with the streamers, and that would have been that.

BUT... the HUGE BETA EVENT OF THE YEAR... TEN THOUSANDS OF KEYS... etc.... that borders on cheating the fans... Even now, three hours after release, there aren't even 10,000 players online.
