Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

So is this a actual RPG or just another Survival RPG?
It took a while but I've finally come to the understanding that if you've played one Survival RPG, you've played every survival RPG that has ever existed and will ever exist.

I was pretty pumped for this til I just noticed the "Open World Survival Crafting" tag on it.

So is this going to be a serious game with an actual plot, storyline, and goals to accomplish?

Or just another of those games where you endlessly grind for crafting materials for the sake of grinding for crafting materials?

I can certainly enjoy that style of gameplay...but I have no shortage of options for that in my library already.

Good Question would like to know myself have seen nothing about any plot implementation just the usually it's Dune you know the Franchise just run with it. The impression I get it's mainly a Survival MMO that gravitates to a PVP end game. But if they were going to have a good story I would have thought the PVP sector would have been divided up in Houses/Faction. So I don't know but I wouldn't count on it.

There is a storyline/campaign we have to complete. It's based in the PvE areas so don't worry that you need to go to the deep desert and worry about PvP to complete it.

The survival and crafting part of the game work with the storyline to advance it and give players more to do.

Personally I would just say it like this;

Dune: Awakening is a survival game that is mostly PvE oriented with tacked on PvP elements. HB (hagga basin) servers max is 40 players. With guild size limits of 32. Expect large server que times. In the DD (deep desert) can have somewhere around 500 players at once with all the HB's inside it's world connecting to it's DD for more lucrative action like open PvP vs HB.

Dune: Awakening will offer you hundreds of hours of game play content. Group sizes of four players. With added friendly fire on abilities and if you exceed groups four count to include guild endeavors. Be mindful of back stabbing and friend fire alike, even from guild mates. Loot inside the DD is not shared and only open to who'm grabs it first. Spice in bulk, which will drive the faction based pledging alignment systems, trade on the market, and to craft with will all be found in the PvP DD zone.

It has a blend of PvE and PvP but I strongly consider this game a survival tag vs anything else. Hope this helps, good luck in the DD fellow gamers.

You work towards an Ornithopter flying machine, then buzz yourself into the deep desert for adventure. It seems to have a lot of new features instead of the typical game. In the latest dev video they had a PVE zone and showed some of the combat, reminded me of the cave places in Fallout games you gotta clear out

Or just another of those games where you endlessly ...

... where you endlessly watch chat scroll frantically in Cyrillic and Mandarin, wondering at what farmer website you will buy your in game resources for real life cash.

And then you just carry on playing and enjoying yourself and ignore all the people asking for money for things you can get yourself.
No, there's quite a bit of variety in the open world survival crafting games. Valheim is a very different experience to Conan Exiles and Dune Awakening, another very different example would be V Rising.

To me Dune:A seems to be an evolution of Funcoms previous game: Conan Exiles.
And if so, the RPG or story elements are going to be very light. I strongly believe its mostly an exploration/survival/crafting/combat/pvp game.

Sure, it will have SOME story elements but its nothing like a RPG adventure games like Baldur's gate. It however will likely be very sandbox-y, so a "create your own entertainment" kind of game.

Ironic, that "Conan Exiles" is almost exactly what I was afraid this game would be. I didn't know they were the same developers. lol

I have Conan Exiles. I enjoy Conan Exiles. But the single player content in Conan Exiles is a tacked on afterthought at best. And I get weary of Multiplayer Griefing and Trolling really fast.

I can handle it in doses. And next time I want a dose i'll just reinstall Conan. Or any one of half a dozen other games just like it that are in my library. But I think i'll be passing on this unless I find out there's much more substantive single player content later.

It's a survival.
Everything else comes after.
Check a few clips of gameplay and you will see what happens if you just forget to drink.

its rust, its valheim, its conan exiles, its enshrouded, its the new runsecape game,
its...

Build square box, farm resources.
Build things in your square box to make tools to farm different resources.
left click things with a gun from afar or left click things closeby with a knife.

rinse and repeat through several tiers of upgrading your square box and the things in your square box.

then when you get to the final tier you have to goto pvp land for the final tier of upgrades to your square box.

Dune Awakening lets you build round shapes too so the bases aren't just boxes. 👍

And there really is a story in the game so that is a step up from pure sandbox survival games.

Could you elaborate on this are we talking a full blown storyline or are we talking the standard on-boarding tutorial Quests introducing crafting, combat and standard gameplay mechanics.
Chaon Apr 22 @ 1:05pm
Well considering I haven't played the beta so I can't tell you anything about the storyline, but yes we will have those quests to learn how to play the game and survive, but beyond that there is an actual story that starts when we create our character.

The Reverend Mother we see in character creation starts it off so listening/reading what she says gives you a start to what is happening and what you are being asked to do.

In the clips that have been released, they have tried to hide the storyline so as not to spoil it for players, but there is a storyline we have to complete in this game.
