And no, it's not a "generational" thing. It's always been like this. Also always some older people had these lines of "the current generation younglings" are like this and that and so on. Just some. It's just a form of tribalism, we and them, the red vs. blue. Some young people do it too, teen age is most famous of rebelling against the adults, just because reasons (or no reasons). But not all teens of course.
Why this game is taking a hit? Why not? As long the criticism is valid, should be welcome. Shows there is interest. Potential market. It's like free publicity. And the game won't die or succeed based on comments. The expectations are varied. Some just want something that this game is not, so they are not happy. Others are just in bad mood, or just like being negative. And so on, all these clashing when the opinions and interests are very different and they can't deal with emotions and all that brain activity. Welcome to planet Earth, enjoy your stay. And that joke: "Nothing to see here, just move on" (not really, but the brain likes to do some exercise in futility, now and then).
If people lowered their expectations, looked at funcoms latest game, and understood that they are so similar. Itll be a little better version of Conan Exiles. Tadaaaaa.
Amazon Games was said to be making a LOTR game. Look at New World, and imagine LOTR with some better things than New World has, tadaaaa.
Games that are successful are going to copy their current model and roll with it. Its just the way it works.
2. Some random nobody streamer said game would fail.
3. Game didn´t copy x, y, z from another game, must fail.
4. Can't buy because of age limit, must fail.
5. Game "fails" in hope of points farming.
And so on and on ;)
there are too many big titles that have dissapointed gamers in the recent years and it has become obvious what to look out for.
building up hype generally is a big indicator for a product that the devs and publisher know isnt good enough to sell well on its own. so they invest into marketing to cash in big time at its release, knowing perfectly well that it wont do well in the long run. why else would you launch people into an obscene mass hysteria over a game?
imageine cyberpunk didnt have its marketing and would have been released onto the market. now think of how fast the word spreads. it would have been a financial distaster.
HYDRATE!!!
You forgot some or my favourites:
This game is Woke, must fail
This game has Root level Anti-pirating and anti-cheat software, Must fail.
Most online forums become like this over time.
Conan was a hot mess of a game. Its dead now, basically, but right up until the end it was a constant disappointment to fans who just wanted it to be awesome and thrive. The devs constantly ignored players criticism of the game, and the game died.
This game will probably do the same. Not because the IP is bad (Dune is pretty cool), or because people like to complain. But because of the same reason many games flop these days. Developers simply don't care about what their customers want anymore. There's no connection between the consumer and the producer. These companies put out slop, and think that because their games sold ok in the past, they'll continue to sell ok in the future.
But then again, we have people like you lot. Who create straw man arguments and hurl insults at people who have legitimate concerns. People like you lot, who pre-order games without a care in the world.
And so the cycle continues. The downward spiral of sludge that falls inward under the weight of its own corruption, until the steaming excrement collapses and flushes down the toilet of market failure, leading to the closure of studios, the firing of skilled and experienced developers, and the eventual death of the gaming industry.
You are here contributing even less than the people complaining about it at least they have a reason.
