Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

What will be the pricing model ?
Hello everybody,

I'm very interested by the game, but still a bit confused about the pricing model.

I know the Free2play model, where you download and play for free, and if you want extras, you pay for it.
I know the subscription model, where you pay (or don't pay) for the game, but you have to pay a monthly subscription.

Regarding Dune Awakening, I understood from the last dev video, that there will be no subscription, and that we can pay for season pass, but how about the game ?
Is purchasing the base game mandatory or not ?

It may seem obvious, but it only "seems" and I just can't find the information written clearly, it's all suspected.

If you have a clear page stating that, I'd be interested.

Thank you.

The game's model is Buy to Play (or B2P). Like any other common game on Steam. This game is neither Free to Play (F2P) like Warframe, nor Pay to Play (P2P) like any subscription based game.

You buy the game and you can play it as long as Funcom keeps the servers running.

Here is a dev stream explaining the business model:

Warframe has on it's store page "In-app purchhases"
Will Dune not sell anything "in-app"?
All cosmetics will be in form of "DLCs"?
There's a clear infographic on the store page, showing the differences between the packages. It's the typical standard , deluxe, ult deal. 5 day EA and various armor skins. The confusion is calling these armors DLC's.
It's all the same BS though. Confuse the consumer.

the pricing model is: buy game, play game.

I doubt it will rely only on this. There must be something else after the release.
I cannot see Funcom developing expansions like Arena Net for GW2.

Hello there,

Yes, I know this video, watched several times already.

What we can hear is the following :

0:19 - Soon we'll be opening pre-orders for the game
0:24 - So that you can make an informed decision about your purchase
0:32 - It will not launch on early access and it will not have monthly subscription

After re hearing more in details, that's what comes out, like a buy2play model.
Anyway, I think you will agree that's it's not stated clearly, but only implied.

Just hoping things will turn out well in the end.

Cheers.

The devs said there would be no ingame shop.

They plan to release DLCs, some with cosmetics, some with story expansions. I wonder if that will be enough to keep the servers running.

Buying the game rules out the F2P model.
No subscription rules out the P2P model.
What is left is the B2P model.

0:38 "it will receive regular free updates, including new content, new features and QOL improvements"
0:48 "we will offer optional DLCs"
0:56 "with each major update we will release a DLC"
1:00 "there will be an option to buy a season pass which incluides several DLCs"

I am not entirely certain whether it will be enough to keep the servers up in the long run, though.
its basically a subscription model if there's a battle pass

I do not think anyone ever mentioned any battle pass being available for DA.

In fact they have gone out of their way to state in every livesteam that there will be no battle-pass type system.
