Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

No single player mode?
Do I understand correctly that there is no single-player mode like in Conan Exiles? And no mod support?
If that's the case, I'll have to cancel my pre-order.

There is no single-player mode. But as far as I've gathered you can solo the game from start to finish if you like, and do so also while enjoying end-game content. However, once you get far enough into the game to make an ornithopter, and the area where the end-game content is located opens up, it stands to reason that you'll have a different approach to gameplay than those who play in groups. But as I understand it we aren't talking about a theoretical ability to do it, rather that they are trying to design the Deep Desert so it's possible to solo despite PvP being allowed there. But there is no single-player mode.

There is no mod support at launch. From what I remember hearing they said it's possible they'll think about doing it later down the line. But that they didn't promise. Take this one with a grain of salt as my memory is a little fuzzy about the details here. But there is no mod-support at launch for sure.

Yes, you are correct there is no single-player offline mode.
Even if you play solo, you will encounter other friendly or hostile players in your game.
There will be no hand-holding, and there are no cozy features like sliders to turn off things like weight, volume, or options to get more resources. Also, all items you craft anything from bikes and thopters to armor, guns, knives, tools, walls, and trinkets will have durability. Once you've repaired them a certain number of times, they will break. This applies to everything, including your base walls but to a lesser extent.

Additionally, don’t forget that you will need to pay taxes every week, depending on the size of your base plot. The bigger your base, the more you’ll need to pay to maintain it, as well as pay more taxes. It’s pretty rough, especially if you're used to getting tons of help from extra NPCs in games or playing alone.

Another thing to factor in is quicksand and worms. If you get stuck in either of those—whether you're on a bike, thopter, or on foot and can't get out or get eaten by a worm, everything on you and inside your vehicle will be lost. There's no need to return to it; it will be gone forever.

Also, on a side note, everything in your tech tree can be crafted without limit. However, any other blueprint you find will have a limited number of uses based on its permits. This system keeps you constantly searching for better, more durable gear that lasts longer and breaks less easily. But with that durability comes higher value losing or breaking it in combat has greater consequences, creating a cycle of risk and reward in both PvE and PvP.

There you go all the info you might need to make up your mind. Have a great day, and maybe I’ll see you in-game! :steamhappy:

Not that it’s any of my business, nor do I hate the idea of a modded server, but if Funcom were to allow it, they would risk breaking the balance of the game.

Even if they kept it in a separate world, it could still disrupt the economy and fairness across all worlds and shards. No matter how hardcore other servers are, the ripple effects of modding whether through power creep, unfair advantages, or a split player base could undermine the core experience.

While modding can extend a game’s lifespan, if it comes at the cost of balance, it might do more harm than good.

Do you happen to know if the pre-order reward swatch or premium swatches have a limited number of uses, or are permanently available?
Thank you very much for your answers. I've decided not to refund the game for now.

As long as I haven't played for more than two hours, I can still get a refund, and hopefully even for the 90€ I paid.

Thanks again.

I think it's safe to say that Swatch color palettes are permanently the same for the skin patterns that you will unlock in the game, but I'm not 100% sure. However, since those are cosmetic, I don't see why there should be a limit on the number of uses. only time will tell us that, or the next Twitch stream.

Thanks for the offer. Who knows, maybe we'll actually meet in the desert sometime.

My hope was that it would be like Conan Exiles with a single-player mode, without being interrupted while building your base, or if you just want to explore and get killed by another player. Especially in such large games, it's annoying when you respawn in your base and have to walk for hours to reach your destination again.

I know there are also NPCs, worms, etc. that can kill you, but my experience is that players say I'm peaceful and then shoot you in the back.
That's why I prefer to play alone.

Funcom said they were aware of the community wanting private servers very much, but those definitely won't be available at launch. So, no single player mode for probably quite some time.

Hagga Basin will be almost 100% PVE the only PVP areas will be some large ship wrecks that contain valuable loot. Even the initial area of the deep desert will be a PVE area. Funcom have stating many many times that you can participate in the game world to a meaningful level without ever engaging directly in PVP.

FUNCOM games are always amazing but with a tragic flaw. Secret World story? Amazing. Combat? Awful. AoC? Great world great combat. Crafting/progression (at least initially)? Painful. Conan Exiles? Tons of fun modded. Agony solo/pvp/vanilla.
I love Frank Herberts world. Even the prequels and post death sequels. I dreamt of a Dune game in an exiles or bethesda format. Dune: Rust/Division toxic pvp cesspool I'll have to pass on. :conanthink: :illuminati:

It isn't all about PVP my dude, please read/watch some of the livestreams and info on their discord/website before jumping to conclusions, I've been playing Funcom games since Anarchy Online and this game feels like (so far) the game that AO could have been, everything is a learning curve including game development.

PvP is the endgame. This means endgame rewards only come from PvP.

It's not. Participating in the Landsraad is the end game and Funcom have stated that you can still participate without being directly involved in PVP.
