They never had any intention of creating a Dune universe, this is a re-skin of CE with some elements borrowed from Rust. Just another looter shooter....
Ground vehicles can similarly be used on Arrakis wherever there's rocky ground, and by moving from one area of rocky ground to another with only a brief time spent on the open sand it's perfectly survivable. Staying on the open sands and driving there for a longer time guarantees you getting eaten by a worm though.
Worms move in the sand by essentially liquefying it with their bodily vibrations, therefore they can sink in it whenever they want to. The thopters also use Holtzman tech that aggravates the worms so if you fly close enough to the sands, worms might try to catch you.
Here's also the explanation for the alternate universe thing: Everything we do in the game is witnessed by Paul Atreides, as he observes all the possible timelines and stops for a while to look at how things might have been if Lady Jessica had given birth to a girl as ordered instead of producing a male heir to house Atreides. We're all just glimmering stardust in the eyes of Kwisatz Haderach.
This game uses Unreal Engine 5, and yes console releases are coming later on so they did not push the graphics to the absolute high end probably for that reason. That said, they look fine to me on my 4k IPS monitor with HDR and 10-bit color depth enabled.
Ground Vehicles - Thats not what is depicted
Holtzman Shields had a catastrophic reaction to directed energy weapons. Shields were used but this also impacted the use of weapons, energy weapons were largely ignored because the explosion could destroy both the target and the attacker, it also prevented the use the projectile weapons which is why knife and sward fighting was so important.
If you are going to use shields then you also need to take in to account everything that comes with it.
Thopters, to my knowledge Thopters were entirely mechanical in nature, no Holtzman tech.
If you are right that Paul is just playing out a what if scenario then they have just undermined their entire game because it doesnt matter what you do, this is all but a academic exercise.
I see what you are getting at with this idea but there are far better ways to achieve a story arc. Similarly the Kwisatz Haderach would have come about with the Alternative Pauls Children and as mentioned the Bene Gesserit would have been all over it, including the destruction of Leto anyway.
This would have been far better if you had injected the game in to the universe without trying to latch on what was written just start a fresh story that could run parallel to the main story or within one of the many many gaps.
Stand by my comments on GFX quality, it looks like cut scene from the source engine or Doom 3 era.
The vehicles have been featured in many of the Dune games of the past, and the harvesters are ground vehicles too. The ground vehicles in the game can also be picked up and airlifted by the carryalls, to increase the chances of surviving the worms.
The catastrophic nuclear reactions from hitting a Holtzman shield with a lasgun have not been removed from the lore either, they simply added a safety to the lasguns so these do not fire when targeted at shields. If these nuclear explosions had been included in the game it would have meant the game quickly becoming unplayable with nuclear explosions constantly happening everywhere. This change was also specifically approved by the IP owners.
And yes it largely does not "matter" what people do in video games, it is just entertainment to pass the time. The gameplay loops and other content in the game remains entertaining despite it not having any impact on the official Dune lore. Even if we were playing out the events of the official lore, that would not have any impact on it either of course. They aren't going to make new editions of the books where things are different based on what the players of this game do.
You forget that Kwisatz Haderach specifically has to be male, in order to have access to both male and female genetic memory. This female child of Atreides could never have been Kwisatz Haderach. But as Lady Jessica obeyed her orders, Duke Leto and house Atreides survived the Harkonnen trap as the Emperor did not take sides. By the time of the events of the game that conflict has simmered down into a cold war called War of the Assassins, where we players are those assassins siding either with house Harkonnen or house Atreides.
The graphics of the game look fine to me, perhaps you have your settings configured wrong or have been watching some videos recorded on low end systems.
Someone's done their home work. Well said.
Not if you want to bring about a game that will land with the audience that has lived with Dune for decades.
Apologises, i wasnt clear, i didnt mean that the girl replacement of paul would have been a Kwisatz Haderach, i mean her Child would have been and would have been under the control of the Bene Gesserit, that was their original plan, its also highly likely that the Baron would still have done what he did with Leto so in theory it would have followed their plan, Paul and his children where not their plan. This is the problem with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with a story line that already covers this, i stand by what i said, i better story would have been to create an entirely separate arc in the same universe.
i beg to differ, The paul replacement would have been sent to the Baron to be married off which would have generated eventually the Kwisatz Haderach, the Baron was also equally pissed at Leto but it was the Emperor that was pushing it as he saw Leto as a threat to his throne, It was also the Emperor who forced the Baron to leave Arakis, irrespective of paul who whomever it was being born, the outcome to a point would still have been the same
Settings are maxed and everything else looks fine, what it doesnt look like is an UE5 game
Top tier graphical fidelity also means a 4k IPS monitor or better, and a 3070 isn't built for modern 4k gaming anyways, it's a 1080p card in 2025.
