PvP No thank you
Extremely disappointed with the approach they are taking with this game. I really wanted a Dune adventure game of some form with a Narrative not some game where I'm hunting "10 baby sand worms to make a Sand Worm Belt" type MMO. It's extremely disappointing and to be able to fully "Enjoy" the game you will have to join a guild and play PvP crap. Sigh, very, very disappointed and I will pass on this one...reading some other threads I am not alone in this either. I know there are some people that really enjoy PvP and I say more power to ya, but just not interested. I would like the game to succeed however, so that maybe they can go on to make a different game that I would be interested in...but I just won't be bothering to get this one.

It's good they are being transparent with everything then, so you don't buy the game and spend years talking about how you don't like PvP, or survival gameplay.

No reason to be snarky partner...I'm mostly commenting because I'm disappointed. Have really wanted a Dune Adventure/RPG game. Have read the Dune books every other year since the late 70's....Have always wanted a Dune RPG of some type. Was hoping this would be it, but alas it's not. Judging by the comments from others, I'm not alone in this observation.

If this game does OK, I am hoping they make the game I do want to play, seeing how they have the license. Fortunately there have been an amazing number of Dune Board games and the like and even though I am not big on Tabletop RPG's the books and the like are quite cool.

And yes, to answer your snark, I am happy they are being up front about it, nothing wrong with being disappointed and respectfully voicing that.

Not sure why you think I'm snarky, just replying to you. They've already said this game will have PvP and have lots of survival elements, so it's good that you already know you wont like this game. I see so many people play a game for hundreds of hours and complain about features in a game that they should've known would be in the game when they bought it, but not you.

Of course you're not alone in wanting a different type of game. It's the same for almost every online game that has a big crowd of people that want a single player. I just hope they are all as aware as you are, so we get more conversation about the game and not a bunch of disappointment threads like this for years after release.

I think it will have lots of PvE and finding things to do with other players, but if the PvP and survival gameplay is what makes you not like it, then at least you already know.

My biggest disappointment with MMO type games is how most people play them like a singleplayer game anyway, and that they've started being designed for that instead of encouraging players to interact. Personally, that's why I like PvP in online games, because it encourages players to interact.

But yeah... I wouldn't mind seeing other creative designs around this IP as well. They do have a 4x game called Dune: Spice wars released last year. So it looks like other developers can make games with the IP as long as Funcom publishes it? Maybe someone could make a Manor Lords (strategy) type Dune game, or a roguelite/roguelike or extraction Dune game.

"Joel Bylos reassured that players who only want to engage in crafting and economy or building are entirely free to do so. Dune will not force players to participate in PVP or group activities"

there will be Pvp zones and area however it is not a purely PvP game. you can play solo Pvp or not. watch the interview with pirate software. Its a pretty decent interview that explains alot.

Why has every game these days include PvP anyway
Its always cheating cheating cheating, exploiting, trolling and other toxic behavior

This is the main reason why players hate PvP

"Not sure why you think I'm snarky, just replying to you."

Sorry Mate, easy to read things in a bad light as this is steam forums after all, so I misinterpreted your response.

I actually own the other Dune game and it's great...I'm not all that good at it, but I also haven't invested enough time in it either and started out at hard difficulty...so I need to take it down a notch and truly learn the game.

As far as MMO games go, the last one (And I vowed never to invest in an MMO again) was the "Lord of the Rings Online" which I invested a stupid amount of time and energy into and honestly once I capped at level 50 (That was as High as it went when I bailed on the game) It felt more like work when playing than anything else. It was the only MMO that held my attention for any length of time, but after a while it just became like work and just wasn't really any fun anymore and it was a huge time sink....So, never again.

I guess this game will be a bit different than normal MMO's, but not enough for me to invest in it for some of the same reasons you mentioned above.

Thanks for your response. :)

Play with a guild???

what do you think MMO stands for???? MASSIVELY Multi, Player.....which means lots of players, you play with, if you want a solo player games there are all over the net....

It blows my mind that some of you don't read what a game is about.... its an MMORPG.....

Do what most players do, ignore the toxic players, you also can block them, I have for years.... interacting is the best part of MMORPG, this is why MMO for years have died, its because so many of you younger gen folks are anti social....

most MMORPG they don't force PVP..... Unless its 100% designed around it ...

You can find guilds that go after the gankers and toxic ones, we used to run a guild that , we went after people/guilds, who would farm newbies....

So you can do that too... People dont want to play against PVE all the time as its not a challenge, where PVP it is..

and everyone always thinks people are cheating, and alot of times they aren't its that the user is good.... and the other person is not that good.... They just assume the person cheats, I get people who spam me as a cheater because I get 50-100 kids in games like COD.... and I have never cheated a day in my life, I can't stand cheaters... I ran a community in MMORPG for 17 yrs ...to go after these type....

Sigh, I'm sorry Recon did you not read my comment? I stated quite clearly I knew this was an MMO...since basically from the beginning....I was voicing my frustration and disappointment that they took the MMO route to begin with. If you had bothered to read the rest of my comments on this thread, you would realize that I have played MMO's in the past. And yes, guilds are part of MMO's...not sure the point you were trying to make but all I am saying is I am disappointed..and I am trying to do it in a respectful way so that if this game is successful and as they have the license they can make a single player or coop adventure game later on down the road, not an MMO. I hope you enjoy this game as you seem to be a fan of MMO's and I say more power to ya. Not everyone thinks like you and we have different opinions.

I read it, and seen that you said that, but some of you wish a game, was, what its not..... we see it with every single MMO that is ever made.,. so some of us seen these comments for decades as they become more...

This is part of why MMO have died, as I said the community..

The game is NOT even out yet, and your already throwing a hissy about it, which makes no sense... wait for the game to come out, then, you will actually know what is going on, as of now your speculating...
I rarely see non-PvP games have beggars for PvP. There might be a few that say it would be cool to get raided by another player, or something like that, but I hardly ever see people constantly pushing for it in a PvE game, especially not the same way any time a game with PvP progression in it gets bombarded with people saying it's "forced" and should be optional, literally trying to take any game progression away from PvP and put it in a optional, tacked on mode.

I've been playing Aska, Project Zomboid, Valheim, and Manor Lords and barely ever see anyone talk about PvP, unless they are mental cases that can't let it go (these people are more often the anti-PvP crowd). There are so many games where you don't have to deal with people, it's called solo games, not MMOs.

You are 100% correct that there are so many other games. Nobody could possibly have any complaints of not having games that are made in the genre and way they want, right?

Even so, this game could be 90% PvE progression with just a little engame loop for the PvP. You might could play 100s of hours without ever seeing PvP for all you know. This game could have so little PvP through most of it's progression that it drives off most PvPers because of it, for all you know. I see so many games use "PvP" as the carrot on the stick, then bait and switch to a PvE simulation game, leaving PvP as some low effort neglected step child.

PvP players aren't allowed to have a game with good PvE elements in it because everyone and their mom will come on forums demanding to have PvP optional, ruining the whole point of PvP, taking away any purpose in game progression around PvP.

I think the real problem at the end of the day is that there just isn't enough Dune games. If there were more Dune games being made of different genres, there wouldn't be much to complain about. I love Dune and have read the books every couple of years (The original by Frank, not the stuff written by his son and KJ Anderson) and because there aren't enough games surprisingly being made with Dune as a theme I think that's why the disappointment is so great for this game.

I would assume the licensing fee is probably pretty steep and possibly that's why there aren't more games being made (Just a guess, could be wrong). Maybe with the release of the 3rd movie we will get more games published and will make everyone happy in the long run. For you'all getting into this one, I say good luck and I hope you have fun with it. Hopefully a Solo or coop game will get made in the next couple of years or so.
This is not the type of MMO you think of, and has completely optional PvP. Even if you join a guild you can still stay out of the PvP, contributing to the guild resources in other ways.
