If this game does OK, I am hoping they make the game I do want to play, seeing how they have the license. Fortunately there have been an amazing number of Dune Board games and the like and even though I am not big on Tabletop RPG's the books and the like are quite cool.
And yes, to answer your snark, I am happy they are being up front about it, nothing wrong with being disappointed and respectfully voicing that.
Of course you're not alone in wanting a different type of game. It's the same for almost every online game that has a big crowd of people that want a single player. I just hope they are all as aware as you are, so we get more conversation about the game and not a bunch of disappointment threads like this for years after release.
I think it will have lots of PvE and finding things to do with other players, but if the PvP and survival gameplay is what makes you not like it, then at least you already know.
My biggest disappointment with MMO type games is how most people play them like a singleplayer game anyway, and that they've started being designed for that instead of encouraging players to interact. Personally, that's why I like PvP in online games, because it encourages players to interact.
But yeah... I wouldn't mind seeing other creative designs around this IP as well. They do have a 4x game called Dune: Spice wars released last year. So it looks like other developers can make games with the IP as long as Funcom publishes it? Maybe someone could make a Manor Lords (strategy) type Dune game, or a roguelite/roguelike or extraction Dune game.
Its always cheating cheating cheating, exploiting, trolling and other toxic behavior
This is the main reason why players hate PvP
Sorry Mate, easy to read things in a bad light as this is steam forums after all, so I misinterpreted your response.
I actually own the other Dune game and it's great...I'm not all that good at it, but I also haven't invested enough time in it either and started out at hard difficulty...so I need to take it down a notch and truly learn the game.
As far as MMO games go, the last one (And I vowed never to invest in an MMO again) was the "Lord of the Rings Online" which I invested a stupid amount of time and energy into and honestly once I capped at level 50 (That was as High as it went when I bailed on the game) It felt more like work when playing than anything else. It was the only MMO that held my attention for any length of time, but after a while it just became like work and just wasn't really any fun anymore and it was a huge time sink....So, never again.
I guess this game will be a bit different than normal MMO's, but not enough for me to invest in it for some of the same reasons you mentioned above.
Thanks for your response. :)
Play with a guild???
what do you think MMO stands for???? MASSIVELY Multi, Player.....which means lots of players, you play with, if you want a solo player games there are all over the net....
It blows my mind that some of you don't read what a game is about.... its an MMORPG.....
Do what most players do, ignore the toxic players, you also can block them, I have for years.... interacting is the best part of MMORPG, this is why MMO for years have died, its because so many of you younger gen folks are anti social....
most MMORPG they don't force PVP..... Unless its 100% designed around it ...
You can find guilds that go after the gankers and toxic ones, we used to run a guild that , we went after people/guilds, who would farm newbies....
So you can do that too... People dont want to play against PVE all the time as its not a challenge, where PVP it is..
and everyone always thinks people are cheating, and alot of times they aren't its that the user is good.... and the other person is not that good.... They just assume the person cheats, I get people who spam me as a cheater because I get 50-100 kids in games like COD.... and I have never cheated a day in my life, I can't stand cheaters... I ran a community in MMORPG for 17 yrs ...to go after these type....
I read it, and seen that you said that, but some of you wish a game, was, what its not..... we see it with every single MMO that is ever made.,. so some of us seen these comments for decades as they become more...
This is part of why MMO have died, as I said the community..
The game is NOT even out yet, and your already throwing a hissy about it, which makes no sense... wait for the game to come out, then, you will actually know what is going on, as of now your speculating...
I've been playing Aska, Project Zomboid, Valheim, and Manor Lords and barely ever see anyone talk about PvP, unless they are mental cases that can't let it go (these people are more often the anti-PvP crowd). There are so many games where you don't have to deal with people, it's called solo games, not MMOs.
You are 100% correct that there are so many other games. Nobody could possibly have any complaints of not having games that are made in the genre and way they want, right?
Even so, this game could be 90% PvE progression with just a little engame loop for the PvP. You might could play 100s of hours without ever seeing PvP for all you know. This game could have so little PvP through most of it's progression that it drives off most PvPers because of it, for all you know. I see so many games use "PvP" as the carrot on the stick, then bait and switch to a PvE simulation game, leaving PvP as some low effort neglected step child.
PvP players aren't allowed to have a game with good PvE elements in it because everyone and their mom will come on forums demanding to have PvP optional, ruining the whole point of PvP, taking away any purpose in game progression around PvP.
I would assume the licensing fee is probably pretty steep and possibly that's why there aren't more games being made (Just a guess, could be wrong). Maybe with the release of the 3rd movie we will get more games published and will make everyone happy in the long run. For you'all getting into this one, I say good luck and I hope you have fun with it. Hopefully a Solo or coop game will get made in the next couple of years or so.
