Dune: Awakening

Dune: Awakening

Is this an MMO?
Or just another survival game claiming to be an MMO?

I think it's the latter.
Want to know too
It's definitely bridging the gap a little more. Its a far larger scale than a traditional survival game. There are elements of an MMO, levelling, skill trees, guilds, trading, quests and many more. The most interesting thing is how they handle servers i cant remember it full since the video was released a while ago but they talk about how you seemlessly swap between shards of players and each server shard can have 500+ players in. So it definitely seeming like its gonna less of a traditional survival game but not a full blown traditional MMO. I would say this is gonna be more of an MMO than what Destiny 1&2 and The Division 1 claimed to be, before that genre just got declared "Looter Shooter" after everyone released they was talking out their backsides.

I wish I could respond to this without breaking the NDA.

There are people on theses forums who have been guessing what it is without playing and they are 100% accurate.

If you played previous Funcom survival games you know exactly what you are getting into. If you played Last Oasis / Atlas you have an idea on how servers work.

I don't see how server shards would work in a base building survival game. Guess I'll see
