2. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. The only reason you are here to complain about it is if you play it a lot. And then I’m sorry to say, but I think that it’s a skill issue on your end.
I myself quite enjoy the mode.
Which, ironically, is what the mode is there for.
classic, "you dont like my mode? you must suck!" mindset
If you join the PvP mode you should expect your opponents to be decent at PvP - and to have the arrogance that often accompanies the skill.
So yes, actually. Get good.
The only time I would even dare do said gamemode is if I sailed with someone who had that mindset and desire to play it for what it is instead of pursuing something presently out of reach. It's quite inspiring to sail with people who actually have fun with it.
So you bought the game on release day 7 years ago and have 386h of play time. 10 more than me and I bought the game 17 months ago (and I am a casual player playing no more than once a week with a friend, and not engaging in PvP).
Hourglass is pure luck in that case, yes. If you are lucky, you have an opponent than knows as much as you. If not, you have actual good players or cheaters.
Anything that groups the toxic players together and away from me is a good game mode.
