How to join a random ship?

I thought this was a feature in the past but upon revisiting the game i can't figure out how to join an existing crew or matchmake for one?

Honestly I have the same question. No clue how the open crew guys can join my lobby.

The only way to join an existing crew and their ship is via the friends list, by joining a friends crew or accepting their invite to the game. I think it can be done also via windows game bar.

You can do the open crew, but that always creates a new ship with random people and I wouldnt recommend it.

Yes, I know it sucks, and I think its the worst problem this game has.

Also no it doesn't always create a new ship. Sometimes it'll put me in another crew but it's generally not worth it regardless

Play > Adventure > High Seas > Charter a Ship > Select Galleon/Brigantine/Sloop > Open Crew > Confirm and Assemble a Crew > Set Sail

The game will randomly put you in an open crew. It could be a fresh new crew waking up at an outpost. It could be a crew that is already doing a voyage in the seas. It could be crew that is in the middle of a fight with other pirates.

Open crew can be ♥♥♥♥. Meet a mix of newbies and experienced pirates. Often deal with griefers (who sabotage own crew/ship). And many pirates like to randomly leave mid-game. This applies even with crew recruited through SoT Discord.

But every now and then, open crew can be functional enough. Good luck.
