PC Fatal crash after an hour or two
Hi everyone,

My friend has been having a persistent issue with Sea of Thieves crashing. On common settings, the game runs fine for about 1-2 hours before it crashes entire pc. However, when playing on legendary settings, the game only lasts about an hour before not just the game, but the entire PC crashes and restarts.

His setup:

GPU: AMD RX 6600
CPU: Intel Core i5 9th Gen

Sounds like CPU going over max temp, same symptoms. PCs usually just abruptly turn off when CPUs go over max temp. I'd first check CPU temps if I was your friend.

2nd thing I'd check GPU temps as well.

3rd thing that comes to mind is PSU. Same thing can happen if PSU is faulty, or just doesn't have enough power to deliver during stress.

In any case, I highly advise limiting game fps if not done already. Either via in game settings or RivaTuner (or even Nvidia Control Panel). If he's playing uncapped, that easily might be the reason for overheating, especially since both 6600XT or any i5 gen 9 are far away from high end components nowdays.

Also, on what resolution is he playing and what's the refresh rate of his monitor?

I have exactly the same problem, but CPU temperature is around 80°C and with other games it's considerably higher, e.g. Cyberpunk at 90°C. no overclocking, never had problems.
could be psu going bad or pc drawing to much power tho since it lasts a few hrs be for crashing might be heat build up put your hand over the exhaust of the power supply every now and then why playing to see if it get really hot can prob hear it to
can try leaving the side open with a fan on it to test if its overhearing if not can also get a program -not sure what one for amd- that can limit the power draw of the gpu that can help to with power draw
I replaced my PSU with a 750W PSU and it still occurs. Pretty sure it has nothing to do with overheating or such
