Can you server select?
I started playing with a friend on the same crew and we got bored playing as a crew, we both enjoy pvp but we always get placed in empty servers. Is there a way to select your region/server so we can play together on opposing sides or are we just stuck randomly?

How do you know the servers you get placed on are empty?

I've encountered two people in eight hours of gameplay. three if you count the guy whose crew I joined. They look fairly empty to me. All the pve events are deserted, could just be that I'm on an australian server.

The game will always place you on a server with people if there's room, and make a new server that others will get matched to until it's full, though.

It's a big map. Most people don't enjoy PvP, so they stay away from other ships and don't put up flags. Maybe you're just very unlucky, or people are avoiding you.

Probably just unluck then. It's a shame others don't like pvp, Naval combat is really fun in this game. And first person naval pvp is actually quite an interesting idea for a game. Though I understand why you wouldn't want you hard earned plunder taken and sunk. But on the other hand. shouldn't play a pirate game if you don't want your ♥♥♥♥ stolen and your crew killed and ship sunk.
Right someone scuttled their ship instead of letting us take it, they really don't like pvp, huh.

If you're looking for pvp the best is playing hourglass you'll be teleported to a ship willing to fight or surrender on sight to farm the petty participation reward rep.

Another choice would be diving to gold hoarder easy treasure missions to jump from server to server nonstop and only stay in servers where you see the burning skull in the sky.

Another pvp requent event is the fire tornado which is a pve ship you can take over then you steal it for yourself and then some people might attack you.

Always check on the map, sometimes you can find a reaper ship and you can know where to go.
Its not like that People dont like pvp, its just the combination of pvp and pve that never realy works in an uncontrolled Online Enviroment, especially in a Game with alot of Singleplayer and pve Content. Just look at Dayz, everyone hated it until they came up with Community Servers so People could play the Game however they want. And even more important, in a moderated and controlled Online-Enviroment!!
But Dayz is a very different Game and has no Ingame Shop so maybe thats why they are so cringe about giving up on the "pvpve only" idea because everything is design arround the Games monitization. Big L and very short-sighted in my Opinion. Let it rot...

For once steam is actually helpful. Though after a few hours of sailing around hunting for players I eventually found quite a few battles and conflicts between them. Just took a bit of hunting.
Ye, bad season if you wanna do PvP runs, people left in groves.

Either jump in with the hourglass, which is reportedly and on first-hand experience, full of cheaters, or find a server with a burning blade running.

You have good odds of having a dispute over it, and taking it is always a fun ride.

I got placed In one that was empty one time. You will know because you will constantly get attacked by kraken, meg, or skeleton ships right after world events despawn. If you notice a world event ends and you get meg almost immediately I would say its fairly certain you are in a server by yourself (or very few players). If it happens like 2 or 3 times in a row it is a certainty. If you stay on the server long enough you will actually notice patterns such as meg kraken ship - meg kraken ship etc

Empty servers is a bad thing? I would love to get not constantly harassed by Reapers

I see a reason why, you're not server hopping. my advise, hop til you find reapers, multiple emmisary ships on the tables, a FoF or FOTD. A VPN is where you can change regions

In my experience if you join the game with a crew of 2-3 players ( friends usually) you are placed on a sever with other pre-formed crews.

This changes the experience drastically.
