is it worth getting into if you're alone?
title pretty much. dont have anyone to play with and it seems like a game to play with friends from a glance.

It really just looks like you can play by urself to learn it. Even with a bunch of friends, you're probably gonna get ♥♥♥♥ on a couple times until you get good at the combat and the other stuff. But if u ask me, when you hit pirate legend, thats pretty much where I would stop playing like constantly. It's definitely one hell of a grind tho.

I play solo most of the time and I find lots of fun. The game is designed to nudge you into playing with people but at the same time, it's completely playable solo.
I love just sailing my ship around and doing random voyages or just exploring and fishing.

I still get spotted and hunted now and then from other crews, but if I get sunk, I just walk it off and get back out on the water :crossbones:

edit: been playing for about 3 years but mostly on Xbox until recently moving to Steam. I prefer Steam now.

You can do everything solo but it's harder. If you can't stand people beating you in pvp games then i would say you should skip it. As most times if you're alone you will get not outskilled but outnumbered.
In order to have chance to beat a bigger crew they must be really bad or you must have a lot luck and cursed balls.

The only ship you can fully function as a solo player is the sloop, and that ship doesn't even has enough firepower to sink another sloop in 2 vs 2 fights (assuming both crews are good at the game and not getting one shotted by cannon balls constantly, hence the luck part), let alone 1 vs big crews.

the sailing is fun and the graphics are good. if you play safer seas you can play solo and have a casual experience. you can play solo on high seas but i don't recommend it because you're easy prey and won't ever get a fair fight. it's better if you play with open crew so that you can at least have two people on the ship. that's because when your attacked by another ship they'll likely be a boarder and someone firing cannons at your ship. you can't really handle both at the same time solo. it's a good game and worth playing and the endgame needs some improvement or experienced players will move on once they see that there's nothing left to do with any risk or reward. when you win or lose a fight in the game it means nothing. that's the only problem with the game. having no economy and no risk or reward leads to dull game-play long-term but the experience you have while exploring and doing pve is good while it lasts. i'd still be playing if it had some sort of economy and risk and reward game-play but after doing the content i have nothing left to do.

It's a great game with or without people to play with. It's a bit harder as a solo but you can always play open crew and have a laugh.

Yes.
As others have said, it's harder solo than it is with friend. Thankfully you can hop over to the official Discord and pick up some decent crewmates in their Looking-For-Group channels. From what I've heard it's a lot more reliable than using the built-in open crew feature.
No, dont play it alone. Point.
2nd: u will regret buying the game when u have to choose a pirate. All the Suggestions u get (u cant even filter if u like to see male or female only) are abominations straight out of hell.
Your mood to play the game after being forced to pick a monster for u as a pirate is down to zero.

No.
i personally wouldn't touch high seas (pvp) solo. some people do it and are fine with it as far as i can tell, but it's not for me. safer seas is fun but it's a very watered down version of the game because the developers (rare) despise pve players to their core, so they punish you heavily for trying to pve.

Is there a problem with the in-game matchmaking? I feel like the "Looking for Groups" on Discord won't be looking for a complete newbie.

You get no control over who joins the crew, giving you a significant chance of encountering a troll who'll just sabotage your ship. There's no option to kick crew members from the session so naturally this causes frustration for the victims.

There's a "new-swabbie-lfc" channel specifically designed for new players to connect with other newbies. You can also post in the main lfc channel and explain that you're a newbie looking for someone experienced to help show you the ropes.

Ultimately you have more control over who you team up with there.
All personal preference. it can be harder to solo, but some people prefer to play solo... my pvp is trash so I tend to like having a buddy!

if u look on discord then its ok. But choose a friend who can play at the exact same time as u! And i would start with Sloop (duo)!

Saw this in the top sellers and thought maybe they added a PvE mode, so I can play with my friend/solo. Several years ago they said they would never do PvE (because they don't want to upset PvP'ers?). Well, Tarkov devs said the same thing and we now have full co-op PvE which is a blast.

Maybe one day...
