And with friends... well, everything is better with friends.
1.) Keep your eyes peeled.
2.) Trust no pirate.
3.) Know your ship.
If you loose your cargo or quest progress 1 of 3 times per haul to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in PvP or griefing, why wouldn't you play safer seas as a new player to have time and the peace to learn the game?
As a new player I couldn't care less about the bloated offers and factions in the game right now. Let me get to know them in peace without worrying someone firebombing my docked ship while doing so.
That we can't use guild/captain ships in the safe seas is beyond stupid imo.
Let me awe at that overpriced shipname sign I bough to feel somewhat attached to MY/guild ship wherever I want ffs.
Gatekeeping a shipname and ship customisation to PvP ... the stupidity
+ No other players to worry about (no PVP)
+ Do whatever you want
+ Game's fully playable solo
Cons:
- Less rewards
- Extreme/Very high difficulty (no playercount-based scaling)
- A few limited/restricted features (Can't use your own ship, have to charter one)
- Fighting enemy ships has a low chance of you surviving (unless you're smart)
- Solo'ing boss fights takes a long time (i managed to solo one and win in 14 minutes)
- Your ship can be cheesed by sea monsters (they typically just circle you until you attack)
- You're doing ALL tasks yourself (can be overbearing tasks since the game is meant for co-op)
- Queue up for Safer Seas takes quite a long time (averages around 5 to 30 minutes due to high demand for safer seas servers)
Overall, it's still ok to play solo, just expect a huge increase in difficulty, as well as a longer wait time to queue up for a solo session. You either have to train yourself, or play the patience game in a lot of scenarios.
What? I can't play safer seas with my buddies? Is it solo only???
Thank reason they made it possible!
Well, I'll be playing high seas too even if I am new. Not for the cheaters, not for the griefers. But for the guy who came to our ship, just chatted and have us the basic rundown. And for the guy who suddenly hero jumped somehow on my ship with a crate cannonballs, wood and food.
It's far better as a social experience though. On the ship the more tasks you can do concurrently, the more successful your crew will be. The game is designed for more than one person. On land, ammo is generalIy scarce. That said, there are plenty of videos on YouTube of solo players having success.
I read that they introduced private server instances so that it's just you and your friend(s) free to explore.
If GamePass is an option, you could give it a try for a potentially low cost of entry.
LIKE THE SONG?????? Just keep your eyes peeled tururururu
If you plan on being a true solo, your options are severely limited (only one ship is really viable as a solo player, and even that is a challenge to manage as a newbie) and it seems like the next update will actually make it even harder for players on their own. If you have a microphone, you can find some great teammates in "Open Crew", which provides you random crewmembers. So long as you are patient with the younger players, you'll have a wonderful time. I have played open crew for years and have had maybe four actively toxic crewmembers.
Tough to gauge. Next update a bunch of new players will be brought in from Playstation and I think it would be a great time to start, as many other players are new. However, if you are against having random crewmembers, you'll be facing an uphill battle and quite frankly the game is very lonely if you don't have someone to chat with while on the open sea.
Tale tales, safer seas. Just not worth getting jumped, doing story missions. Any quest that you are going to be on an island like for a really long time. Riddle quests, for example.
If you do not want to cheat, you tube were clues are, then you can be on island a long time. Means your boat is left alone for a really long time. Or your wasting time constantly on lookout for boats coming towards you. Heading back to your boat to see if any reapers have spawned. It just takes to risky to do by yourself for the rewards you may get.
Other missions are fast merchants lost shipment, gold hoarders vault runs. You can do them fairly quick. And are not of boat a lot. Worth the risk on higher seas.
