As for the distance of each grid - there's no confirmed answer.

the map is 1115400 miles Because if you compare how fast a ship in sea of thieves travels through a grid and how fast a normal ship goes in real life to find out how long a grid sqare is then add that for all the grid sqares in the game then if you do some more math (very complicated) you get 1115400 miles for the whole sea of thieves
