Game won't even start up

I've been trying to play this game for a couple of days, and every time I do, I get an error that says "Video driver crashed and was reset! Make sure your video drivers are up to date." I checked my drivers right after and even looked for updates, but they are up to date. I tried restarting my pc: safe result. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game: same result. Idk what to do.

In a text editor open the file corresponding to your version of the game.
Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Athena\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini
Find this line:
D3DVersion=12
and change it to:
D3DVersion=11

Yes. I found out the game had updated the engine it uses and there was nothing mentioned in the patch notes. Simply right click on Sea of Thieves and click on properties. In the General tab is a box for Launch Options. Simply type -d3d11 into that box. That fixed it for me. I had to go to support and they gave me some links to troubleshoot the problem some more. One of those links had this tiny blurb on the bottom that said some older machines (mine included) couldn't handle the new engine and the resources it required. Type that in to revert the launch conditions.
