Video driver crashed [SOLVED]
I have this problem since the last update. When i start the game instantly the game crashes and says "Video driver crashed and was reset. Make sure your video drivers are up to date" and another saying that the last time the game was not closed right. I unistalled and reinstalled again and update the drivers but this doesnt work.

Yes the last update is complete garbage. I work 60 fps all the time but it keeps freezing constantly for the first 5 minutes of gameplay.

Can end up terrible if those 5 minutes im spawning in a ship to help a friend in a pvp fight, im completly useless and teleporting under the ship during those micro freezings.

Yeah, I cant even start the game, we must wait for another update and not play the game until it gets better.

I resolve this problem changed in video options DirectX 12 to DirectX 11. Try it, maybe it would help you.

I solved. (this works for me)

In a text editor open the file corresponding to your version of the game.
Windows Store: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Athena\Saved\Config\WinGDK\GameUserSettings.ini
Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Athena\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini
Find this line:
D3DVersion=12
and change it to:
D3DVersion=11

Press Windows + R
In the searchbar write %localappdata%
Search and open the folder Athena
Open folder Saved
Open folder Config
Open folder WindowsClient
Open Document GameUSerSettings
Find the line D3DVersion=12 and change it to D3DVersion=11

no need to go in appdata, just go in game to video settings and change directx from 12 to 11

I tried to do this, but when I opened the ini file in the note, it seems empty. Does anyone know how to fix this?
CaptainSpacetime Apr 29, 2024 @ 2:03pm
What OS, cpu, or gpu do people have where dx12 is causing such issues?

To view the ini file you should right-click and open in notepad.

If it's just an empty 0kb file then that's another issue. Probably just delete it and verify files from steam to get a new copy.
